I was just wondering if you can feed tomatoes to goldfish, because they seem like a good color enchancing food. I have tried feeding carrots but my gf dosn't like them and whenever I have tried feeding red bell peppers, my fish would act like she was eating them but an hour later I would always find them stuck to the filter intake <_< ( the red peppers not the gf lol.GIF ). I also feed my fish blood worms, which are supposed to enhance color?

I have few more questions about color enhancing foods.

Are there any other fruits and vedgies that will enhance color?

What kinds of live foods will help with coloration becides krill?

Ps. I love my goldfish just the way she is, and I think that she is beutiful with her pinkish white coloration. heartpump.gif

I think that tomatoes are okay as long as the seeds are removed. There are gel foods that use tomatoe paste so fresh tomatoes seem okay. I'm not so sure about your other questions. Hopefully someone with more knowledge in that area will answer soon! lol.GIF

wow, tomatoes can even be fed to the fishes too... huh.gif
tomatoes are good for our facial complextion, so does it mean that our fishes will look more pretty too? B)

Any veggies with a bright orange, yellow, or red color probably have carotenes (which is a nurtient that enhances color). Plankton and shrimp are proteins that enhance color. smile.gif

I wouldn't put them in the tank, because tomatoes are REALLY acidic and could throw your levels off.

Thanks, thats good to know, especially since my tank is so small.

So even if you fed tomatoes before a water change it would still be too acidic? unsure.gif

Well any way just to be safe, I don't think that I will feed my fish tomatoes. biggrin.gif

Just to note, my gf won't take carrot unless it's cooked to mush, then served in REALLY small choped up pieces- fussy little horrors!

maybe yours are the same??

unsure.gif I don't know if my fish will eat them or not, but maybe I will take your advice lol.GIF .
My goldfish really like fruits, but I got my fish to eat broccoli once, after that my fish wouldn't eat broccoli again. <_<

I have been thinking of buying some show quality color enhancing fish food. I feed my fish some tropical flakes once and a while, but I don't think that they have done any thing to enhance coloration. sad.gif

I am thinking of moving my fish tank near one of the windows after the window has been replaced, I have read that natural light will enhance their coloration. I think that I will have the tank partially covered so that my fish won't stressed from all of the light. biggrin.gif

Hi:

I feed mine's a portion of the tomato paste gel food recipe at least once a month. My fish do fine. I haven't had any problems at all.
