Hey Everyone wav.gif
I got my "Female" Betta awhile back. I think that the lady at the LFS was right I do think its a male. But it has short fins....and it had the pimple thing...but now it doesnt and now its flaring and making bubble nests and everything...what do you think guys? Do I have a short finned male or what!? If so Betta needs a new name.

Also, her/his fins are healthy no sign of fin rot and s/he doesnt just flare at guy anymore...s/he flares at my mom's cell phone too.

biggrin.gif Fishbuddy2 - I don't know much about female bettas, but I do know some things about male bettas, and I certainly think what you have there is a boy. gudluksn.gif

do you happen to have a picture of the betta in question? is it the one in your signature on the left hand side?
lol i used to have female bettas and they flared and made bubble nests all the time. i think i saw one burning her bra once too....

biggrin.gif i have heard that some female bettas can make nests and guard the young. only heard mind you.

Yes Martinez she is the one in my signature. What does burning her bra mean??? blink.gif

<_< if its the one on the left in the pictures then that to me looks like a male. you can get males with different tail and fin lengths.

blink.gif don't worry about the bra thing, i was only trying to be funny. guess it didn't work. :duck

that betta could definately be a female - i used to have a very long finned girl - and have seen bigger than that. i can't picture the ovipositor "falling off" though. try to get a good close up shot of her underbelly and it might help us identify this lovely lady/macho man's sex.

good luck!

I have an update on Betta...I think I may know why she was acting weird....Nitrate and Nitrites were EXTREMELY HIGH! Omg. I tested it when I did her water change today and it was VERY HIGH! It was the highest that Ive ever seen...none of my other tanks were that high... blink.gif

bump.gif fishtank2.gif I added a little plant to her tank also...and I saw the "pimple" today again...she is a wild thing so I believe I saw it. I added a little plant to guy's tank too. They sooo cute... heartpump.gif

If the "thing" you see is falling off and appearing, you might be seeing him/her pooping. Bettas' anus' are actually between their ventral fins and not towards their rear like where most people assume.

Female bettas can have long flowing fins, build buble nest, flare, etc.

THe only way to know for sure is to look for an oviposter. If at one time you see it, and the next you don't, I would say you're seeing him in the process of pooping.
