Can I ask a quick question about my new tank.

When it's been covered for a while, there is a thick froth on top of the water.

I have a bubble-curtain at the back, and it's only when that is running, but the froth builds up until it nearly comes out the two outlets for tubes and wires at the back.

My water quality seems ok, and I use a de-chlorinator in the water before adding it to the tank. However, I live in a fairly hard-water area.

Ideas?

never heard of that before... It could be dangerous if that water drips down to you electric outlet.

Hope other members know what to do. Starbucks anyone rofl3.gif

Don't panic about the electric - I've installed a drip-loop (ie, a loop of wire that goes straight down from the tank and then loops back upwards toward the outlet - that means that water will run down the cable and drip into a catch tray underneath - not back to the sockets above the loop!

Phew... spit.gif

Thanks for thinking though!

I once added way too much dechlorinator by accident, and ended up with a lot of bubbles on top. They just weren't popping when they got to the surface. I'm sure that was the problem, as a water change (with the directed amount of dechlor!) made it much better.

If you're adding just the right amount, then I have no clue, hopefully someone else has an idea!

Ah, this could be it.....

Because I had to handle one of the fish to do an examination, I put a little extra StressCoat in (Dechlorinator with Aloe Vera) - to help his slime coat.

I'll do a 20% tonight and see if it helps!

Thanks. blink.gif

JUST done the water change (20%), and added a little salt for my Herc's health problems. I will see how it goes now, and let you know.

Cheers.

Melafix will also cause a great deal of frothing - it can be scary if you are not expecting it!

I know it was a while ago now, but I forgot to feed back on the solution to this topic.

Thanks May - you were spot-on (as usual) - I had too much StressCoat in the water. It didn't make any difference to the fish, in fact the Aloe Vera possibly helped a little, but my GOD..... Did it bubble.

After about 40% water changes with 1 drop per litre, it's all ok now, and crystal clear as well.
