Full Version: Switching From Salt To Fresh?

Combing through the paper, found a listing for a '50 gallon saltwater tank' in the 'To Give Away' section of our classifieds. Now, I've been going on for a few months about getting my fish a new tank. Right now, we don't have the space or the $ resources, but as it is 2 Orandas in a 20-gallon, we are OK. They just keep growing, that's all! biggrin.gif

At any rate, even though I wouldn't be ready to use this immediately [and of course, I will call, and see what condition it's in, and what shape -- wouldn't want one of those funny tall things -- I really like the 46-gal bowfronts myself], but I figure, a tank is not intrinsically salt or freshwater. A good hosing-out in the backyard [and maybe cleaning with a faint bleach solution?] would take care of it, maybe? Anybody know?

Thanks,
Mav

Should be OK after a good rinse and sterilization... lucky you!

Sounds fine to me. Just make sure you rinse that bleach out EXTREMELY well. I've heard too many stories about tanks with bleach - and they aren't nice!

Overall, it sounds fine to me. ^_^ Lucky

I will be lucky only if this man calls me back. He wasn't home yesterday when I called, so I left a message. Maybe he's out of town. But why you'd run an ad in the classifieds when you're going to be gone is beyond me.

Too bad there's no address in the ad, just a phone number, so he's obviously not doing what most people do with free furniture, etc, which is leave it by the side of the house/on the curb, and just let people come by and take it.

You don't see many free tanks in this corner of the world, so I hope it hasn't already gone to somebody else. I have no clue as to its condition -- if it's really messed up, and I'd have to re-seal it and all, I don't know that I'd take it, as I don't currently have the space for it, if that makes sense. I hope that by 1 Jan I'll have the job thing squared away, and the apt. thing taken care of, and that I'd be in a position to set up a larger tank [currently @ 20 gals.]
