I recently purchased a glass lid for my tank. I've had it for a few weeks. I've noticed that I have salt or calcium residue on the lid and would like to cleant it. So far, I've just taken some tank water (removed during water change) and used my fingers to try and clean the lid but this does not work very well.
I've tried to search here but come up with nothing..any tips?
Thanks!

if you can take it completely off, that would help. you can use a papertowel, or a clean washcloth (rinse well so there is no detergent/soap on it) and try using a mixture of water and bakingsoda and then rinse the lid well

I use a hot water and a razor blade to cut it off gently

If you feel like using an easier method, (which will cost you money!) there are a couple of products out there that are designed to remove water stains and mineral buildup. One of them is called Limeaway or Limeoff... couple of bucks a bottle. You could probably find something at your lps.

Just remove the glass lid and wipe it down with full strength plain white vinegar and then rinse it the lid with tap water. The vinegar will cut right through the lime scale and it isn't harmful to your fish... Besides that... Vinegar is cheap.

Sorry But I would not use lime away glass can be porus if it get a small nick or chip in it then the lime away will get into it and will be deadly to your fish .Happened to me with a dog Bowl cleaned it with that stuff not thinking and stupid me killed my dog . thought it was all out after scubbing and soaking it but I guess it wasnt . so I would go with white viniger or baking soda no household cleaners like lime away.

Lime Off @ Drs Foster + Smith.comAh, sorry... I didn't mean to say Limeaway. That's a non fish-safe cleaner. I was thinking of Lime Off, by the makers of Seri Clean. I have used both Seri Clean and Gravel Cleaner, they both worked great.
But vinegar has been mentioned... works very well also, and dirt cheap. I just hate the smell of vinegar.

had same problem 2 days ago.....Remove the top fixture take out the glass top and rinse it with luke warm water, with a little white vinegar and new jcloth towel the salt debris should come off and no residue should show when its dry.
