Hello everyone.
I am noticing an odd white powder around the hood of my tank, concentrated in mass amounts around the filter/heater opening, it's been there for a week now. I'll list everything that goes in/out of the tank in a weeks period:
100% new water:
10 -gallons worth of treated water
Amquel
NoveAqua
Food:
Tetra goldfish flakes
O.S.I. Dried tubifex worms (cubed)
Live tubifex worms
Substrate:
Various sized river rocks
(as of today) Some unknown plant species
Hardware:
Penguin Bio-wheel mini
Maxima air pump
Air stone
Heater

Sorry that i can't give any water params, i need to get it tested tommorow as the store was closed today.I am very curious as to where this powder is comming from, or what is causing it. It has no odor, i've wipped it up, but it comes back in about half a day. The fish seem oblivious to it, they are still eating normally, active and alert so i haven't deemed it a threat to them. This powder is very puzzeling, any info is greatly appreciated. smile.gif

hiya!

that would be a buildup of salts and calcium carbonates (i believe). its best to try wiping it away on a weekly basis as it can build up and become a real pain to clean. dont worry about getting some of it in your tank when your cleaning it. just try not to get too much in.

hope this helps! smile.gif

if it's near an area where there is some water splashing, it's probably just like water deposits........like what builds up on the walls of showers, etc...since the water has nutrients and minerals in it, when the water splashes up, it evaporates and leaves the nutrients and whatever behind(like calcium deposits). I get this on my tank especially near where my bubbles reach the top, and near the filter. i don't think it's anything to be worried about, just clean it off every now and then and all should be well. as far as i know, the stuff is harmless

Oopsies!
Awesome, i figured it was pretty much harmless.

Grain- It is near the filter, thanks for letting me know what exactly the powder is.
Paul- Sorry about posting this in the wrong section, thank you Paul for moving it. Thanks for the quick reply.
