Can black moores stay outside in the winter? Seems like I read somewhere that they can not take the cold like a common goldfish. Also, if I do bring them in can I put them with my bala sharks? I need to get a separater - I bought one but didn't like it so I think I am going to have one made.

I personally would not leave a moore outside all winter. I think if you bring him in he will do much better. not sure about the bala sharks but I think some people have had great luck with them and goldfish. Not sure though.

I've been told the only fish that can really survive in the pond thru the cold temps are comets, shubunkins and Koi. I'd bring him in. I've already brought 6 fish in. Plan on bringing the other oranda's and shubunkins in this weekend and slowly bring the rest in over the next few weeks before the water temp gets too cool.
I don't have any idea about the Bala sharks though.

Hi, I realize this thread is ollllld, but I just had to add my two cents. Beside my inlaws (the neighbor) has a really nice pond. I'm not sure on what kind of goldfish are in there (Besides the Moor), because I have not looked at it for ahwile. At the deepest part it is 4 feet deep.
I remember one of the fish distinctly because they called me over to see it, after they heard I love Black Moors. It was a HUGE black moor!
Around September, I asked what they were doing with it....(I was hoping they were planning on selling some of the fish off for winter, so I could snag the Black Moor).
Well they leave the Moor and the other fish in the pond all winter. They always do, and the fish including the Black Moor survive just fine.
I live in Ontario Canada, and you can bet it gets pretty darn cold here! Like it's been -52C a few times.....
I'd be too chicken to do it, but apparently they've had this moor for awhile.

Jesica i guess you and me are in really
cold places Quebec and ontario lol...
I find actually to have a above pond better when it comes to winter
you put the heater in the Above pond with a peace of
taht pool wormer thing *The big plastic thing that people put over there
pools to keep the pool water worm *plus with a heater it must
be alot better for the fish in the winter
yup but i find a fancy goldfish like a Black moor
should not stay in a pond for the winter .

Thanks - but I brought both of mine in sometime ago. I have them in a 55 with two calicos. Now I don't think I will ever put them back outside!
