Hello Everyone

I was wondering if someone could tell me what the optimum Oxygen reading should be for best health of Goldfish. I have bought a Tetra Oxygen reading kit and my O2 reads 8mg/l. Without the iar pump it rewads 5mg/l The info with the kit is a bit confusing. I think 8 is good from what I can gather but it would be helpful if anyone could let me know.

Thanks.

that's a good question, i'd like to know the answer to that also.

The amount of oxygen that can be dissolved in water is solely dependent on the temperature of the water.
The colder the water, the larger the amount of DO(dissolved oxygen) it will be able too hold.
As an example:
When water is at a temp of 85 degrees the maximum amount of DO will only be around 7.8 ppm.
With a temp of 65 the water will be able too hold a level of around 9.5 ppm.
The best way too relate oxygen levels in your tank is too make sure you are at the saturation(max) level for your current temperature.
And keep using that aeration since it made a noticeable difference.

We did "eco-columns" and we had to test Dissolved Oxygen weekly, it was a completly self contained eco-system was quite amazing, I got to test DO levels

Thanks Jet Man. I now understand what the instructions meant hwne they siad to stay within 75% of the saturation level for the temperature of the water. Keeping Goldfish is very good for learning science- it shoild be useful for my kids when they start senior school.
It may be my imagination but the GF seem happier now that I have an air pump.

Remember to do the O2 reading first thing in the morning before photosynthesis kicks in (even if you don't have plants, algae are also photosynthetic). After testing DO with the tetra kit, I realized the need for aeration during the summer. I
