Just came across this place a few days ago, and it is awsome!! After reading a bunch of posts on different stuff I am surprised my two fantails have made it this long, 6 years.

Any way my questions:
I use tapwater for my tank and it come from a well on my family's property. Iam wondering if I should test it before adding to to my tank when I do water changes and stuff? I do not have a tester yet, but want to get next time I get to nnnnnn, unless buying it online is cheaper. Also would it be possible to use the same tester for testing both water in my tank and before I add it?
Also just incase this info is needed my tank is a 20 gal with just my 2 fantails in it though I would like to get a pleco to help keep the algea down.

congrats, I went many years without knowing that I needed to test the water either, surprisingly some of my goldfish survived smile.gif. The same test kit can be used to test the well and the water in the tank. Clean water has no ammonia or nitrites, or you would be in trouble too. I would say its a pretty safe bet that if your fish survived this long your ammonia/nitrite levels are 0, or near 0. No harm of course buying test kits, its good to test once in a while to make sure everything is great.

If you want to get a pleco, I would be carefull about what kind you get, some like to suck on the goldfish, and the poor goldfish just wiggle around and can't defend themselves.

Thankies biggrin.gif I was thinking my water can't be too horrible since we all drink it and are fine, lol. I was planning on getting either a rubber or bristle nosed pleco, since I read some posts that said common plecos will nibble on your fish which I don't want to happening, and I'd be sure to keep a close watch one them to make sure theyall get along ok smile.gif
