Try this:

Get small terracotta plant pots from art store (50cents). Gently chisel them into rough halves.

You can place them on the bed of your tank, or silicone (use aquarium sealer only!) some gravel over them and around the rim to build a more rocky look and make the entrances smaller.

You could also build a pyramid of them too--the plant pots are the base, just get creative from there on.

I did basically the same thing with a piece of 4" pvc pipe. I used sand paper to rough it up and then covered it in silicone and then covered it in gravel. I used it for a house for a 13 inch pleco in my tropical tank. He loves it. and you can not even tell it is a pipe.

That is an awesome idea, Fred' Dad! I see those ugly white pipes everywhere for all kinds of aquatic creatures, but it never occured to me to cover them like that! Simple, yet great! heartpump.gif I bet you could even silicone some small silk plants to it!

Coffee cups works for me... placed at right angles to each other so they face opposite ways and then covered with gravel. The crays can dig the gravel out from the cup openings.

They do seem to decide that not all cups are equal tho... so you'll need more cups than crays.

I also put one of those cheap garden ornaments, shaped like a chinese pagoda in one end of the tank. Crays can go around it and through it and neatly avoid each other if they get into conflict situations.

Hmm are caves good for goldies? i could hot glue rocks th a pot. lol. it would look awesome. i need a project to do over the summer anyway.

Sure, if its a large enough cave for them to turn around in, Caves are a great place for a goldie to nap! But, be careful using caves for telescopes and bubble eyes and the like. They can get trapped and injur themselves really easy. wink.gif

hot glue is fine in SMALL quatities.....be sure to let it dry for a few days first though..just in case...if its extensive, however use silicoine, for fish smile.gif

Wow! That is such a great idea! Im going to have to do that for my crayfish! I have a terracotta pot in there now that he LOVES. Its just not the prettiest site. Im a little worried about trying to break it, so I think Ill just cover it with gravel like suggested with the aquarium sealant. Such a neat idea!!!
