I have been beta testing a home made filter on guppie's.The filter is strong enough to lift up the debri,Fish-Fece's,Fish-Urine,And Left-Over Food. This is a list of item's you need:

1.8.Inch.Air-Stone

2.2-way air-pump

3.2 8.inch.air-line tubing

4.1Bath-Sponge

5.1plastic pipe used for wiring(Use 1 that is safe for fish)

6.1Rotating Levatation Device(Local hard-ware store)

7.2 Suction cups

Instructions:

connect the air pump to the 1 line of the tubing then attatch it to the air stone.DO NOT start the air pump yet.Attatch the other line of air line tubing to the air pump. Then get your bath sponge and poke a hole the size of the plastic pipe in the middle put in the plastic pipe. Then attatch the 2nd air line tubing to the insid eof the pipe.before you put the the pipe poke many holes.Put the bath sponge on the roation device then attach the suction cups on to the sponge then put it on to the upper right corner.Put the air stone in the middle of the tank and start the air-pump.

Do not use a stronge air pump!!!

the air stone should lift up the waste product's and the waste should in a day attatch to the sponge.every single month replace the sponge and wash the pipe.I have found this method very good it kept my tank very clean.none of my guppies got hurt in the beta testing

Any suggestions to improve this beta version?

the only way i could think of improving this would be to replace this the air stone with power head but this will not add oxygen to the tank but will create greater suction towards the sponge and trapping more debris

i think the powerhead would defeat the purpose of having a small filter without much current being created (bettas like slow currents, if any at all)

As for your project here, is there any chance of some pictures? It sounds very cool and i'd like to get a look see at it if possible. smile.gif
