Well I was going to get some dojos today for my pond and the employee working there said they were out but she could order some in with their next freshwater shipment, so I think it's a good idea to learn as much about them as I can before getting them.

Well I learned a lot about them and their acrobatic natures and have become even more excited to get some, but there's one fact that seems in controversy, some places like at the Compatible Fish site say that they do not eat algea and others say that they do, so can anyone tell me from experience or factual knowledge whether they do or don't eat algea?

P.S. This wont affect mt descision to purchase some, but I would like to know as it allow me to make the decision whether to purchase some bristlenose/rubbernose pleco, some other type of algea eater, or use some other method to keep the algea level at a reasonable low.

I can't say I've ever heard of them eating algae, most loaches are more meat eaters, prefering snails and other such things.

I'd still plan on the bristlenose if I were you.

My dojos don't eat algae. My bristlenose plecs surely do though.

The dojos get a higher score for entertainment, though. They act pretty silly, and remind me of otters.

My dojos eat everything the goldfish eat (including floating pellets!) but they aren't very keen on algae. They will eat it if that is the only dinner on offer, but not enthusiastically. They go WILD for frozen live foods like bloodworms or krill though. smile.gif
