Hi everyone - it's been a while since I've checked in. The photos of the tanks are quite amazing. I was having quite a problem with brown algae. After doing the math I found that I had the light on about 15 hours a day. So I put the light on a timer. The tank receives flourescent light from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The rest of the time the tank is about 15 feet from a window with no direct sunlight. I also bought some anacharis. My comets seem to have moved some of the rocks around one of the bunches! They are getting pretty big and strong (quickly!). However, the algae problem is much better. I can't figure out how the anacharis is growing - there is no soil around the bunch - only rock. One of them has grown almost to the top of the tank. The pet store said that I could just trim it if that happened. Am planning some more goodies for the tank - extra filtration, etc. I am happy about the algae situation resolving because I didn't want to use chemicals.
