Hi guys.
I went and got Anacharis tonight to add to my tank. I thought this would be a nice touch to go along with the Moss Balls that are in there.
I'm having such a hard time keeping the nitrates under control, I thought this is my next logical step.
So I get a bunch of Anacharis, bring them home and used the 1:19 bleach solution to disinfect them. Only 20 mins. later they are stark white!!! I think I killed them. What did I do wrong???
I thought you were suppose to let them soak in the bleach sol. about 20 mins, is this right? If not, what was I suppose to do.
I do want to try this again, so how do I disinfect them without killing them?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks unsure.gif

Too long of a soak LaurieP that long of a solution dip will kill most plants except for some of the hardier swords..I would recommend a short 5-10 min soak and you should be fine..Anacharis grow best either free floating or in small clumps..I wouldn't recommend keeping them in tight bunches with alot of stems as they tend to rot..hope this helps

Yikes, I usually just do a quick dip and a good rinse...

Thanks guys, I thought I had read somewhere to soak them 20 mins. I guess I was wrong. rofl3.gif Well I guess I will have to give it another try later.

You do realize anacharis is known to be one of the goldie's fav snack foods right? wink.gif Not that you get mad if you put it in there and they chow down...

Actually I did not until I got it home and re read it. I want Java moss but I haven't been able to find any up here.
I'm new to the live plant thing, so I'm sure there will be some mistakes headed my way.
Thanks.
