I was going to drop a few earthworms into my tank and I was wondering if there could be any problems with this. Or if the dirt still in the worm could hurt anything?

You'll want to make sure there weren't any pesticides
used in the dirt they came from. It's recommended
to place them in paper towels for two days to work
out the dirt in their system.

Earthworms are a real treat for my koi. Of course, being a 2 ft long koi doesn't require me to cut up those worms, thank goodness.... They eat them like spaghetti.
