The concensus on this forum seems to be that you should condition the water during every change. Do you condition the fresh water while it is sitting overnight, or just condition all of the water after you add it to the tank?

I sit out water overnight and then condition just before I use the water to get the chloramines. I let the chlorine evaporate overnight.

I condition the water while it's sitting in the container, just before I add it to the tank, and after the chlorine has evaporated overnight smile.gif

i have 5 gal bucket and i vac and change my water at the same time. i do about 15 gals once a week my tank is a 46 gal tank. thas about 15% water change and i clean my filters . Then i add back 15 gals. 5 gals at a time using aquasafe which neutralizes the chlorine i don't have chloramines in my water. the ph from my tap is the same as my tank water also the aquasafe also protects the slime coat of my fish,so they don't stress out. the aquasafe will take out the bad chem instantly.

I let the water sit out, and put the water conditioner in it before i change the water... and yes, i add it everytime smile.gif

I use Prime so it says to add enough to treat the whole tank not just what you are adding.
I put the conditioner in as the water goes in.

I have a 29 gal tank and I have been doing 30% water changes using a "Python No Spill Clean n Fill" two to three times a week -since the tank is new. I was following the directions that come with the Python for draining and filling the tank:

"During the refilling process, the water is being aerated, eliminating some of the chlorine. If you choose to add water conditioners, you may add them into the stream of water as you are refilling the tank."

I vacum and drain about 1/3 of the water, then I add tempature-matched water back into the tank direclty from the tap through the Python. While the tank is filling, I add the Aquasafe conditioner and aquarium salt directly into the water. I asked people at the LFS if it is ok to add water directly from the tap in this manner and was told that it was. I haven't noticed the fish becoming stressed althoug I am having difficulty keeping the ammonia and nitirite levels low. Also, the tank PH is low too. Is it because I have driftwood? The wood came from Drs Foster and Smith and is intended for aquarium use. Should I add a PH increaser?

Thanks. Any more advice?

De-chlorinator is harmless and can be added without any concern for effecting your fish. So use it routinely to keep the good bugs alive as well as keeping your fish from the unhealthy chlorine and chloramines. It is one additve that is quite worry-free!

Bye for now! wav.gif
