Is there any treatment needed for well water in my tank? My fish seems to be doing fine in the water, but I want to make sure. I have a 29 gal. tank, with 1- Fantail, 1- Oranda and 2-Telescopes. I am new at all of this and really concerned if I am doing things right.

i suggest you test it and see what the levels are, especially the pH. chances are you are fine but it would be nice to know. if you like, you could add a little conditioner like Prime and a little bit of aquarium salt. watch the pH and add a balancing product, Kent makes a nice one.

I have well water and it doesn't bother the fish at all. With well water, you don't have to let it sit fo a day(because it has already been sitting in the well wink.gif ). You still probably need water conditioner though. smile.gif

Well water should be sit overnight or aerated for a few hours before introducing it to the tank. It is generally very low in oxygen and oversaturated with CO2. I would not worry about other compounds if it has been aproved for drinking.

Our well water is hard enough to walk on, but the most difficult problem to deal with has been the fact that the content and pH of the water changes with seasons - the water table changes level with the dry summer, or rises during a wet spring, causing the water to flow through different layers in the ground. Depending on where the water table is, the content of the water changes - sometimes very alkaline, sometimes not so, sometimes high in iron and sulfer, and sometimes not.

If you use well water, it is a very very good idea to test your water fairly frequently so you know where the pH and such is at the moment. At least test it every season.

Thank all of you for your advise. I will try to get me a test kit and I got some conditioner Friday. Should I still change the water once a week? I am so sorry for all of these questions, but I am new at all of this. I have had my fish for about 6 months and did know there was so much to do for them, until I got in this web site and began reading. Thank you again.
