Are tubifix worms really heathy? If I feed my goldfish tubifix worms once a day every day, will the goldfish start to grow faster as well as their wens? will it make their colors prettier? unsure.gif

If there freeze dried, I guess they're ok. There're 50% protein I believe.

IMO if you want color go with a algae based food, and bio-blend for goldfish.

Tubifex worms make a mess. After 10 seconds with a soaked tubifex cube, my tank looks like a ticker tape parade.

Yick.

I agree with Yar, if you want color, you should buy a goldfish food specifically geared towards color enhancement. Spirulina helps, I believe... as well as a whole bunch of other flake/pellet foods.

When you say algea based food, do you mean something like algea wafers? huh.gif

When I make my Gel food I add http://www.aquaticlifeaquariums.com.au/med...6410%5B1%5D.jpg to the food. Making Gel food is so great cause you can mix a alot of different things for them and they get one giant stable diet biggrin.gif

I got some tubifex dry food on Thursday.. I wouldnt recommended feeding your fish them everyday though, theyre more like a goldie treat that should be fed 2-3 times a week and sparenly. I also squeeze the cubes in a bowl of water before giving them to my fish because theyre absolutly FULL of air which will make you fish floaty smile.gif

I've been told that they are more like "potato chips" for goldfish..
while they are protein.. remember that goldfish dont have complete stomachs.. they tend to do better on lower protein foods and for a high protein item.. are better with spirulina (vegetable) than the worms.
I usually cut the cubes up so each goldfish has a little bit.. rather than an entire cube (again.. I have 2 goldfish per tank) and it's only as a treat.

Okay, I am going to try to make my fish some Gel food(they probably won't like it because I am terrible with foods; cooking, baking, making, mixing-anything with food, I'm terrible at <_< ).

tubby are great source of protein.. life or dried, though live is better.. jus like us, eating fresh or dried meat, of course fresh meat consist better nutrients..

BUT.. you must know the source.. jus like meat again.. eating bad meat unknowlingly give you disease!! Like mad cow disease.. lol.GIF

some tubby comes from a farm that is not so clean.. and the worm will introduce disease to your fishes.. especially internal infection that is not visible till the final stage (when dying, and it is hard to cure)...

otherwise, tubby is good, but there again, provide a well balance diet.. fruit, pellets, prawn, etc etc..

to me, when come to food, I NEVER consider clouding water as a factor.. just like your own baby, will you jus simply stick to milk jus becuz cooking baby food is more messy?? smile.gif I dun mind the mess, it is their health that matters..

Energy is neither created nor destroyed, saying dead things have less effects is not based on anything for dieing matter will still retain its original matter and saying live food has less broken down protein then dead, I will say all protein will be broken down on entering the stomach

Also food poisoning can always occur at any rate wether the flesh is dead or alive due to parasites

Summary: live or dead it wont matter

It's helpful to use a worm cone feeder when feeding tubifex to prevent them from going all over the tank. You just put them in the cone and your fish suck them out through the holes. I've fed frozen tubifex cubes to my goldies before. It wasn't their favorite food, but they ate it cause they're little piggies. yeah.gif If you're worried about the diseases that tubifex can carry sometimes, you can get hikari brand frozen or freeze dried, which are sterilized.
