I posted a topic under Goldfish Discussion titled "First Emergency". Usually there is a response but I posted late last night. The problem is that my tank started leaking last night. I had to exchange the tank and put my three comets in a 10 gallon tub. I am wondering how long the new tank has to run - I have some of the water from my old aquarium and the filter, filter media etc. Do I absolutely have to wait for 24 hours or can I put the fish in the new tank tonight? Also, should I put a small airstone in the tub? Last night one of my goldfish jumped out of the tub - luckily I found him in time. I had a decorator round table and just took the glass top off to place on top of the tub. I hope the fish will be OK. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. help1.gif

HI Lovefish, sorry to hear what is going on.
This is the first I've heard about it.
Since you have the water and filter media, I don't see why you would have to wait 24 hours before putting them in the new tank. I would put them in it.
I would definitely get an airstone working so the water will have oxygen. If you keep the glass over the tub is not good, there isn't enough oxygen getting to the fish.

Once you get the fish in, just understand the tank may undergo a small cycle (even if the filter media is still good). I would test every day to make sure the ammonia and nitrites don't get to high.

Good luck and get those fishies back in their new home.

Usually you wait 24 hours to put fish in a new tank to make sure that the tank and none of the components are damaged or will leak. You should be fine putting them in earlier if you are confident about the materials.
