When I add the Oxygen C Reagent, the water goes clear instead of turning the start color. Could I be doing something wrong or could there be something wrong with my kit?

Sorry I my self havent used this test, but this post will help push it closer to the top for you hun biggrin.gif

Thanks wink.gif I'm actually trying to find out if my powerhead aerates the water enough. I'd rather use it than the bubble bars because it's quieter and doesn't put little bubbles in the water to make the water appear cloudy.

I use the Tetra oxygen test in which clear water means very low oxygen. Are you adding the solutions in the right order and the right reaction times?

If your O2 levels are low you can add a ventouri to your powerhead, they do an excellent job oxygenating the water

In the test I have you set up a starting color, which should be brown, but mine is turning clear. The end color is supposed to be blue.

How well does the tetra test work? I was looking at it on drsfostersmith.com and was thinking of trying that one out.

Works really well... you add 15ml of water to a vial then 5 drops of solution 1, 5 drops solution 2, put the lid, invert once, wait 30 secs, add 5 drops solution 3, invert twice and compare to color card. The results are very easy to read. I discovered that the O2 level was low and added an air stone, now the level is always close to saturation. I really recommend this test kit

Definitely sounds easier than the red sea one. You add 5 drops A, mix, 5 drops B, mix, wait 2 minutes, add 5 drops C, mix, then add D one drop at a time until the end color is matched. I'll have to order the tetra test kit when I place my next order with the drs.

I contacted Red Sea about the test kit, and they think that the reagents have broken down due to high heat or age. I definitely wouldn't doubt the age factor, the marine stuff at the pet store I shop at doesn't move and I don't know of anyone with a freshwater tank that tests for dissolved oxygen.
Kingyo
Will they replace it for you?

Well the company hasn't written back to me yet, so I'm going to try to return it to the pet store.
