I have a 10g betta\community tank that's fully planted. My problem is that my Water Sprite has multiplied like crazy! I have about a dozen little baby plants floating because there's nowhere to put them.
My question is what to do with these? I don't think Petsmart will take them, and I wouldn't trust the LFS with anything considered living.
I've also thought of selling them, but what would be the best way to ship?

Im sure you could ship them just the same way as you would a fish–large bag with water, packed in tightly with styrofoam and a heating or cooling pack (for this time of year). Im sure they would do just fine. Now, I know you'll laugh but what is a water sprite? Im not sure what it looks like. What are the requirements of it? I might be interested in some for my 10 gallon betta tank too because I finally have decent lighting on it. smile.gif

smile.gif Water Sprite is actually really pretty. Have you seen Water Wisteria? it's almost the same only the leaves are more rounded, but still that branchy look to them.
I'm not sure about the 'technical' requirements, but they're doing fine in my tank. The tank gets about 12 hours of screw in CF lighting, Ph of about 7.4, kept around 80 degrees, and it's going just fine. I don't even do water changes because of low nitrates. So I use the water from my goldie tank to top-off.
In that tank, I have 1 male betta, 3 cherry barbs, 3 kuhli loaches, and one Oto. So it is overstocked, but the WS is very good at sucking nitrates from the water.

I also have a melon sword I'm thinking about getting rid of. I've decided I don't like it tongue.gif

Kim, you still should probably be doing water changes on a regular basis, not neccesarily really frequently, but at least every 2 weeks even if the nitrates are low. It is not only the nitrates that need to be diluted, there are many other contaminants that cannot be tested.

To be honest, it wouldn't be worth it for you to ship the plants to anyone unless you can sell a large portion of them, or the buyer would be willing to pay for the shipping. (Which isn't cheap) If you did decide to ship, do so only during the warm months so you can forgo any heating pack. If the plants are small, any watertight container will do (like a plastic bowl with tight fitting lid and perhaps duct taped on) and if shipped like that you won't need any styrofoam to keep it from being squished.
I think your best bet would be to sell it to the LFS. Usually plants sell pretty quickly so hopefully they won't be in the store long enough for them to kill the plants.
