I need to get a tank, my fishies can't last longer in a bowl. Which kind of tanks do you guys use, and which kind is the best? Thanks.

Well, my goldfish tanks are just basic rectangular glass ones from Pets at Home (the US equivalent would be Petsmart, I think). They are 36" long x 18" high and 12" wide (giving 29 gallons) with three goldfish in each. I also have a 5 gallon all-in-one job for a betta and 2 neon tetras. The hoods were the most expensive thing on my goldie tanks - £45.00 each.

In general, goldie tanks need to be long rather than tall so that the water is easily oxygenated and they should have a hood because goldfish are capable of jumping out. Either acrylic or glass tanks are fine; glass is heavier but acrylic scratches badly. Glass tanks are cheaper than acrylic. You can get deals from some pet stores if you buy 'all-in'one' set-ups.

Hope this helps. smile.gif

if you want a nice tank, go out and buy a 30gal Oceanic "breeder" tank. nice large footprint, won't break the bank, thickest glass and best seams in the industry. i own two Oceanic tanks and love them. one is a bow and one is a stretch hex. if you want to drop a few bucks, Oceanic makes a nice bow in 26,46,72gal and up.

in order for the Oceanic warranty to apply, you must use their stands made for the particular aquarium. they have some less expensive ones made of rustic pine and some beautiful ones made of Oak stained in a variety of finishes.

I was able to get a 55 gallon All-Glass aquarium with hood and lights for $99 at Petsmart. Not a bad deal. You still need a stand, filtration, air pump, etc. but still, can't beat $99.

Also I got the stand at Petco for $80, it had some scratches in it so I was able to get the manager to give me a deal on it. I figured it will become scratched anyhow!

Sounds like you are looking for a smaller tank though. nnnnnn has a 10-gallon with a lighted hood and a whisper filter for $29.99. I got one for a q-tank.

Thanks you guys! Unfortunately, the stores are closed right now. Would they make it until tommorow? They've been in that bowl for yesterday and today.

do a partial water change and use water conditioner if you have it.

here on Long island, Petland Discount has a regular item of a 55 gal Allglass with stand (metal) for $89 (or $99.. not sure)

only thing you need to add is the Hood...
so which hood is better??? All-glass? or Perfecto? (48")

I was going to order an Emperor 400 from either Big Al's or Drs Foster & Smith.
With my Eclipse system 12's (I have 3) the water is rippled enough so i dont need an airpump/airstone..
would I need one for the larger tank?? I'm gonna add all the fish together.. 2 comets, 2 fantails, 1 ryukin, 1 oranda (and... hmm.. I think 6 very VERY small oto's)
