So i left for a few days thinking everything would be ok - i left instructions for my grandma to feed the fish. Didn't think i'd have to feed the snails, it was only 2 days. WELL i came home to a murder! I checked the tank when i got home and Toot's trapdoor and a bit of himself was lying on the floor and my other snail, Squishy, was on top of Toot's shell. When i fished it out of the tank there was no more toot, Squishy must have ate him! I'm completely discusted by this

but i must say farewell to my little tooters.....

I'm so sorry! Snails only eat dead matter, so Toot must have died before Squishy ate him. Possibly he died of old age?

Yes I think Airwen is spot on here the snail was possibly already dead but then again who knows they all seem to have minds of their own.
This my experiance of snail behavour towards the dead tank mates.......
I lost Kam around a month since and my other 4 snails all one by one crawled over the back of her shell and peered in to the front of her shell I was a bit worried as I thought they were going to eat her but to my amazment when one snail slid off the front of her in a very gentle manner it was replaced by another snail to the rear all forming a queue..I was absolutly gobsmacked it was as if they were bidding their snaily freind a last goodbye..it was a very touching moment and if I had not seen it with my own eyes I would not have believed it...RIP little Toots

I'm really not sure what happened but yes you guys are right she was more than likely dead before Squish got ahold of her.
Ever since we had her she was very active, but always stayed small. lately we troubles getting her food before Squishy would get it, and we noticed she wasn't as active as usual.
Not too sure, but something happened...

I've never heard of that happening, I've only heard of snails eating dead snails.

Squishy is a golden apple snail, and Toot was a gold inca snail, which i was told from here was a kind of apple snail - it has a syphon

Apple snails and Inca snails are usually used interchangably... if the shell was the same shape and roughly the same size (factoring in age differences, previous water quality and food availability) they were probably both Brigs, but "Incas" are not always the same species. I bought mine as a "gold inca snail" (Gold Brig) while the Wild Type Brigs were "black mystery snail" and there were "ivory snails" and "blue snails"- they were all Brigs. "Apple snail" is just the generic term for the group of semi-related snails.
