I have a 55 gallon tank, with 4 fish in it. 2 comets, fantail and oranda.

The tank parameters are good, ammonia= 0 nitrite= 0 nitrtate 5.. I do weekly water changes 25%...

A few days ago I woke up and found my oranda with a ripped tail, and it looks very ratty. They all have been living together in the tank for about 1 1/2.

I dont know if my oranda got sick, or was attacked by the other fish.

I added some melafix, and a bit of aquarium salt to aid in his healing.

Do you think my oranda is sick?

I have seen this before, with other orandas i have had. Some of them recovered and some of them didn't..

If this is a disease of some sort, what would this be called?

thanks

it sounds like fin rot. its caused by poor water conditions. it can be cured by exsactly what your doing now and more water changes. wav.gif
