Hey,
I have been in here a few times trying to sort this out.
My comet patience is sick and has been for months now!
She has gotten better and worse again and again.

Originally she was in my 70 gallon with my other fish but when she got sick i took her out into my 10 gallon by herself. She got better after ages of salt and treatments. I was happy but i wasnt sure if she was okay enough to go back into my 70 gallon with my other fish so seeing she is quite small i got her another small friend black moor to keep her company.
She is sick again. The signs are bloody marks on her dorsal fin, tail and body. Last time i didnt think she was going to make it, but she did and seemed to fully recover.
I seperated her and her friend and now she looks terrible again. I have started treatments again but she is getting worse, what can i do?!

My ph and water levels are fine. I use ager in my water. I feed my fish on nutrafin max fish flakes. I have filters and air pumps in my tanks.

Her eating habits are bad at the moment and she seems to be 'sulking' quite a lot which isnt the right behaviour for a comet.

Any other signs that you see on the fish? Are the bloody marks blotches or do they look like viens? Are its fins clamped?

your comet should stay alone in the 10 gallon tank for awhile. Since you add the moor have you check the tank parameters? amonia, nitrite, nitrate?

please keep a close on eye your fish.

it sounds like she is suffering from poor water conditions. do water changes every other day 20 to 30% each time and add one tsp of salt per gallon. she should pull though just keep the water super clean.

Septicimia perhaps? This is actually blood poisoning which can be caused by high ammonia/nitrates or an extremely nasty internal bacterial infection.

As your moor is OK and water param's are OK it sounds like an infection. Perhaps your Patience didn't fully recover from his long illness or he now has a weak immune system.

Treatment is antibiotic medication and food.

I'm only passing on what I've read, I had a fish with septicimia once but lost it due to incorrect treatment. Without proper treatment the organs will be damaged and your fish will die.

I hope someone with more information will be available to help you soon.

Best of Luck, Annette

Problem is, im doing most of that stuff.

The levels in the water are fine and im doing regular water changes and salt treatments.
Also feeding medicated food.
The blood marks are like blotches, its quite severe now, i have nearly given up.
Umm she is keeping her dorsal fin down and her fins look all broken up and yucky.

Im all out of ideas.

hi abz! i see patience is still having problems, huh? thats too bad. poor girl unsure.gif

i couldnt help but notice that you mentioned salt treatments. what do they consist of? are you adding salt to her tankwater? is she back in the 10 gallon?

have you tried treating with anything else? if so, what?

what are the water params out of the tap water? ph from tap? ph in the tank?

sorry for the added questions, im just trying to figure out why her tail and fins are still shredding.
