Forum > The Goldfish Topics > Goldfish Tanks > Goldfish plants, & how to set up a planted tank
Ranchugirl
Since I heard that mossballs, being rather compact and hard to penetrate, I figured I give it a shot. Although the delivery from the ebay seller took a little while( 4 weeks from Germany, of all places!), he did add 2 additional plants to the original 2, so I have 4 of those now....smile.gif

And no, the dojo wasn't included! rofl3.gif
Kingyo
They look great! Are they goldfish proof?
Ranchugirl
So far, so good, yes! No nibble marks, no reducing in size, nothing. They look as pretty as on the first day, and I have them for a week now.....happydance.gif

Ranchugirl

Ranchugirl-

I have 4 Marimo Moss Balls in my pond. I have had them for several months now and they are doing great! I have very little algae in my pond. They are fun to watch roll around and the fish love them. I have one big male lionhead that pushes then around like a toy!

lol.GIF Yeah, thats what I noticed as well the fish doing - playing soccer with them! Its amazing how big they are getting, and uniformly shaped if they get the chance to roll around. And whats even more surprising, they really are not being eaten! Thud.gif

A friend of mine has a few mossballs in her guppy tank and she says her fry adore them.
LaurieP
Oh I love those. Is the only place to get them is online?

I would love to have those. They are just so cute. Are they expensive?
I think the fish would love to play with those.

hmmm......I just happened to win an auction on e-bay a few days ago for three of them This guy is in Germany!!! ohmy.gif Does that mean I'll be waiting 4 weeks too? Anyway Laurie, that's where I ordered them. There was a couple different auctions going on.Mine ended for 5.00 and I thinkthree something for shipping? I thought pretty reasonable considering how much plants are at lfs & the fact that noone ever had these. You may be able to even get them cheaper.I just chose an auction that was ending soon and paid that price.
LaurieP
Ok, now what auction, where is it at? Maybe I'll do that. I don't think I have seen any of these things at the lfs.
And now I want a couple.

Thanks Andrea, I would have to fall in love with something far away. why.gif

Ok I did a search on ebay and only 1 seller, and he wants $15 dollars for them, they're are 3 and he throws in some type of water lilly. Isn't this to much. The article says they are between 1-2 inches.

How big are your mossballs?

I am so wanting these things, I can't see straight!! Thud.gif
koko

Ususally he puts auctions under different titles-Could be under Home & Gardens/Fish/Live plants, etc Here is link to my sale, and if you look on the right when the screen comes up you'll see view seller's other items, and that will show you all his auctionsE-bay Moss Balls

Thanks, Sharon and Koko. And of course Andrea, whom without you would not know what plants I want for my tank.

Just back from Petsmart and of course no mossballs, so looks like we'll be bidding on some tonight.
I couldn't bring myself to bring a plant home, they had some nice anarchis (spell?) at least that's what I think it was. They had all kinds of snails in with all the plants, and I don't want snails (no offense to anyone), just not what I want. There was big snails and then very tiny baby ones, some so small you can't really see them.
So I just couldn't chance bringing something home to later have snail babies arise in my tank.

I know I know you can sterilize the plants, but baby steps guys, I'm just starting out on adding the plants.

Please be patient with me.
Sharon, you'll remember all that went into getting the betta. biggrin.gif So you'll understand.

Thanks Andrea, now I have another addiction: ebay.

I have never even been on there until today.

Really? Oh boy, I spend way too much time there (and sometimes money). The mossballs and other plants pop up when typing in "goldfish" or "koi" in the search engine, forgot which ones, and the seller I got them from was W-P-V. The balls have around 2 inches in diameter.
Koko, you just couldn't help yourself, could you now!....rofl3.gif
koko
Nope sorry hun, It was wide open for me.........
