The site says this:QUOTE
Constipation
This will happen to your goldfish at some time in its life. Most goldfish are compacted and this causes a problem with there ability to eat and digest things well. Foods high in fat can cause a goldfish to get stopped up just like you and I. Goldfish need green foods from time to time to help digest their foods better. Peas are the best food for them and acts as a mild laxative.
And I'm pretty sure my fish has it, but I'm not completly sure. Their stomachs seem VERY large. Like they're gonna explode like a balloon.
But they still eat a lot, and I've only fed them once a day. If this because they're fat, or are they just constipatated?
Here are two photos I quickly took a few minutes ago on the two fish I believe has it, or something else:
Chubby Cheeks, the picture above, well the white dots on his tail really wasn't there, just the flash from the camera that caused it.
And the second fish, Pepper Dot, below.
I think peas might be too big for their mouths to fit to eat them. Do I just cut them? And do I have to fry these peas or microwave them? Because they might be frozen if we buy any. Also, if I were to buy them plants instead, what KIND of plant do you prefer? And can the fish live like this the rest of their lives?

for the peas....buy frozen peas, they will last longer. I just take a few out at a time and let them sit out until they aren't frozen anymore, it doesn't take long at all. you will need to take the skins off. I just use my fingernail (you can use a toothpick) to pinch a hole in the skin of the pea, then squeeze the middle out through the hole...the middle is what the fish will eat..it is squishy, so they will be able to get it in their mouths.
-as for the plants, there is a section on the board somewhere that tells what kind to use. Hope your fish are doing better soon!!

peas is realy good to help clean your fishes out. you can also feed them food to help keep them regular. lettece is a great one. feed it to them once a week as a treat. it may take them a few days to relize its food though be patiant. as for the fat bellies its realy normal for your fish they are ment to have round bellies. the only easy way to tell if there constipated is to see them well not poo. a goldie will poo about one houre or so(its difrent for every fish) after it eats. but feeding then peas and other fresh foods is a good idea even if they are fine.

thank you i just read this because my fish is constipated, or swim bladder, but peas are good for both. Hope he is better tomorrow, he is a chocolate pom pom oranda and he is my son's fish, i would not want to lose him. It took forever to find one, even though i live in a big city. He is a bronze color, he is beautiful.
