has your tank only been going a short while? for the first two weeks i had my tank set up the water was awful - you couldn't see the other side, and it's only 18" long!! it could just be 'new tank syndrome' if you've only just set it up. this clears up as the tank establishes itself. other than that i have no ideas - sorry... wav.gif

how long has this tank been up?

If this tank has been up less than a month this tank is still cycling and needs special care right now. If the ammonia is at the 3ppm mark you need to do a 30% water change (not Gravel). YOu will also need to test the ammonia every day to see if its going down.sad.gif

ALL RIGHT I TINK I FOUND A BIG PART OF THE PROBLE,
for one i tested my wail water for chlorine an it tested 0 so i quit treating it before adding it to my tank.well i just tested it for ammonia an guess what...above.25 so i been wasting my time with all the water changes ive been doing!!!!

so i just did a water change TREATED WATER, i added a product to my filter called C-100.its a bunch of little rocks in a bag thats saposed to absorb ammonia good for one month..has anyone used this before??its made from ZEOLIT

i also used something to clear the water up, against my better judgment. right after the water was clear my fish were gasping at the top of the tank for air.so im guessing it took all the Oxygen out of the water..y wouldnt they tell u to do a water change if they knmew it did this???

When you put the zeolit rocks in, did you soak or wet them first? On the packages of carbon that I just got with my filters, it says to be sure that they are totally saturated as putting them in dry can really suck out the o2. Just be sure that you remove the C-100 if you will be using a salt treatment. Salt is used to refresh the rocks and will acutally cause the ammonia to be expelled from them.

i ended up taking the ZEOLITE out,i had them in my filter an one of the bags just desentagrated an sent rocks all in my impeller of my filter,,i wasnt a happy camper,
