Bettas (beautiful)

How many can you have together or is this not good?

no two males together, right?

no filter or aireation needed for these?

(can you tell I want one?) asking questions FIRST this time to avoid the mistakes I made with my goldies...

Hi Annie, I recently got a betta so I'm new to this, but I can help you a little.
Only 1 male betta per tank, or have a divider, they will kill each other if put together. At least 1 gal of water. Bowls are ok but they jump so you have to be careful with those.
They like warmer temps, room temp is ok unless you are me and the rooms are all around 65 deg. spit.gif
Females, are alittle different. Some of the members here have a couple females together, but I am not sure what it takes to keep them from fighting because they will hurt each other as well. So I'll leave them to help you in that area.
You can have a filter and a heater and a bubbler if you want to. Some bettas like a calm water though.
If you choose not to have a filter some members say you can change 100% of the water once or twice a week and be ok.
This has not been my experience. Unless I change the water every other day, my betta's fins look like they have been shredded.

I also asked alot of questions before I got Chicken, if you want to read the thread it was a month or so ago "Let's say somebody wanted to get a betta...." That was the title, there is alot of good info in there.

Good luck

"Lets say somebody wanted to get a betta..." rofl3.gif Laurie! Such an unconspicuious question!... Was that the same day you went out and got your blue ones?.....I think I need to start a thread soon called "Lets say somebody wants an albino tiger oscar....."..lol.GIF...evil snickering.....
Annie, I have had female bettas together in a 10 gl tank, and they will get used to each other. A few days of a little fin nipping was all I saw of aggressiveness. I did have a simple sponge filter in it, driven by an airpump, and added a valve, so there was only a very bubble flow and very little water agitation....smile.gif

Yes, I would have to admit to that, (hanging her head and shaking it).
That day was a nightmare. Here I was set to spend $30 for a betta and a tank, and at the days end it was close to $450, and didn't get the betta. wacko.gif That face is exactly what I felt like.

lol ohh no. if you want to house female bettas then have lots of room i would say min 2 galons each and min of 3 femals in a highly planted tank. click here this site is about bettas its cute the way it tells you about bettas and good info.

click here too i like this one but i would house a betta in nothing less then one gallon 5 gallons is the best because you can heat it. they realy do prefer heated water. or a ten gallon and you can have filtration and a few females. or one male and sone neons or other littel non flashy/agressive fish.

1. Males Cannot Be Kept Together
2. Females Can Be Kept Together,But You May Find One Of Them To Be Aggressive So Watch Out For That.
3.Aeration Isnt Required Unless The Bettas Are Kept In A Tank With Fish That Require It.
4.Filtration In My Opinion IS Needed. But You Dont Want A Very Strong Current.Just Something That Will Keep The Water Nice And Clean While Keeping The Current To A Minimum.
5.How Many You Can Have Together Depends On The Size Of The Tank. But About 1-2 Gallons Per Females.
