well my name is jenny, and i have a fish addiction problem, Thud.gif

You see all I wanted to do was check to see if the lfs had any frozen bloodworms because they did not have any last week and I passed the goldie tank with no problems because:
A) I have no room in my tank
B) There weren't very many goldies there and
C) today is thursday and I know they get fish on friday (just avoiding temptation)

but then I passed the bettas in there little cups and just glanced to see how many were dead (which usually they are) and well something happened and i started moving the cups around and looking to see what colors there were and suddenly I find myself attracted to a beautiful all red handsome boy. Had to have him. Then I realized that hey this lfs have buy one get one free so why not two. So I move the cups around some more and this blue and red betta was flaring away at me from further back on the shelf, well after almost causing the shelf to collapse and knocking around some fish I got him too.

Quick trip to dollarama for some nice 2 gallon clear containers with lids ($1 a piece) and some gravel I had leftover from the goldie tank, ta dah! I now own two happy active bettas.

Cost of 2 bettas $4.99
Cost of 2 makeshift betta tanks $2

Total cost: Going to have one upset husband who said "no more fish" (he didn't specify what kind of fish and that's what he gets for not letting me getter bigger goldie tank for more goldies!!!!) LOL!!!! rofl3.gif

Anyways if anyone has any advice on new bettas or new husbands I could use some help!!!! yuma.gif
Black oranda

OMG, you're funny. Bettas are fun, they're like little bulldogs. Husbands CAN be fun, but they're kinda like bulldogs too.

Advice for the betta-- weekly water changes, feed lightly!!!
Avice for the husband--- don't let him hog the bed , and he can make his own ###### food!! Hahahaha.

Oh errika,

You're so funny!!! rofl3.gif It's ironic that you mentioned don't let him hog the bed because last night it was so hot and humid (we've been too cheap to turn on the A/C) that he couldn't sleep, just kept tossing and turning, which kept me waking up, so I got up and slept on the futon in the living room with the balcony doors wide open, ahh much cooler I say, slept for a few hours and then he's up trying to get on the futon with me, bed hog!!! Ahh, I left the bed because of him!!! Thud.gif

So now I'm awake and it's early 8:00 am, I've been up since five and I can't sleep anymore. yawn.gif

Hubby hasn't discovered the bettas yet because we went out last night and hasn't been in the spare room!! Heh, Heh!!! peepwallA.gif We'll keep everything on the down lo for now!!!

I tried to feed the bettas last night tubiflex worms but they just ignored it, reading past posts I might try frozen bloodworms (the goldies will have to share) but how much should I give them? I don't feed the goldies bloodworms everyday so what do I do with the rest of the cube of bloodworms if I don't feed it to the bettas? Can it go back in the fridge (eww, hmm, maybe I can feed it to the bed hog...)

Goldieocd, that is funny. This hobby can be very addicting.
Not too long ago I was in search of a betta (my tank was stocked to capacity with orandas so a betta was would calm my withdrawl). Anyway, while in the store looking for a betta, long story short, the husband and I came home with a new 46 gal tank and 2 new orandas.
I had to wait a week to get the betta.

I have no advice for the husband, I have a wonderful one, we love the goldies together. He has 2 in the oranda tank.
The only thing I can suggest is to share all the fun with him and pray, then maybe he will come around.

Can't wait to see the pictures

hey everyone,

Thanks for the advice, I tried some hikari betta bites today and they're cautiously interested and eating a pellet or two. Maybe tomorrow they'll want some more.
They're now very active and seem to be feeling better.

I'd love to post pics but I don't have enough posts yet and that would require asking hubby for help also, (he hasn't discovered the bettas yet so everyone will have to wait and see.)

As for sharing my hobby, this is pretty much the only thing I can call my own, my hubby has very expensive hobbies such as car audio and "souping up" his car, I put alot of "penance" in accompanying him to car shows and sound offs, so he really CAN'T complain (and he probably won't, he'll just give me one of those looks that says "oh god, she's gone off the deep end". wink.gif

He lays claim to two of my moors, but really doesn't do anything but watch them swim around (once in awhile he'll help carry the bucket of dirty water to the sink during water changes).

Laurie, I think I remember that thread about you buying the new tank, that would be us as well, because we're so impulsive!!!

One thing I really love about him is that he is handy and he built my fishtank stand all by himself and really put alot of thought into it, so part of the allure of getting a new 50 gal tank to him is that he gets to build another stand (He thinks he's the boss, but I just let him think that!! Ha! Ha! rofl3.gif

This sounds like me. The hubby didn't say "no more fish" cuz he's not allowed to talk to me like that. ohmy.gif He would just say "Oh GOD, like you need more FISH!", and I'd tell him to shut up, cuz at least I have a hobby. His hobbies have included souping up his new truck with loud exhause, cold air intake, headers, etc. and all this has costed 100 X what I've put into my fish hobby! I'm not even gonna get started on how much money has been put into the jeep too. Thud.gif
So... when I got Jupiter, I set him up in his tank, put it on the dresser in the bedroom, and he didn't notice him for HOURS. When he finally did, he just laughed at me and told me I was weird. But, I've caught him looking at him a lot, so I know that he's at least "mildly" interested in all my fish, he just doesn't want to admit it!!!

What kind of car does you husband have that he's souping?
goldieocd
Hey errika,

My hubby's other love "Petunia" is a purple pearl hyundai accent. Not many of those running around all done up, but hey she's cute!

He works for a local car audio retailer so he justifies his booming system as "work related". He loves his little cars that go fast, this one's pretty tame compared to others he's had (suprised sometimes that we're still alive). blink.gif

We had a chevy S10 that he was fixing up before petunia, it got rear ended and written off a couple years ago, but that had a lowering kit, exhaust, stereo, you name it and just when I thought he was finished, it got smashed and had to start all over again.

I drive "Bruce" a 2000 Tiburon (shark, get it from finding Nemo) which I just bought at Easter and he has to wait until his big sister Petunia is done before he gets anything!!!

Still hasn't noticed the fish, but hey that's fine with me, maybe I'll go shopping for some clothes and shoes since he's alittle preoccupied with getting his car done for the end of the month (big compact car show coming up!!) biggrin.gif

thats great you got more fish smile.gif
goldieocd
Ahhh, I've been discovered, peepwallA.gif

So hubby has finally noticed the bettas, and his reaction was....

"hey, I thought you were not 'suppose to have more fish in the tank"

to which I reply, "they're not going in the tank, they're staying in the containers..."

"Oh" he says, carefully inspecting them. "How did you make holes in the top?"

" I used your drill.", I say.

"You used MY drill?!?!" he gasps. He goes off to inspect tools and me and the bettas are home free. biggrin.gif

He was impressed with the flaring though, guess it's a guy thing!!!

(Guess he'll have to find the other two containers I picked up today at the store, waiting for the right occupant to come home from lfs!! Heh, heh, heh!! hehehmn.gif
