i've been reading a lot of different posts under this forum and the treatment forums...
many support that bad water quality lengthens the treatment time for sick fish.
i'm adding maracyn 1 and 2 and QuICK CUre and salt to my fishie's tank....
after reading allt hose articles, i believe i need to change the water. however, if i change water. won't i take out all the meds?
and also, the hospital tank is taller than it is wide. is that a problem? i have an intank filter that shoots out water from the bottom right now.

Yes, you will take out the meds with a water change, but that's not always a problem - you can sometimes add in a little extra med to make up for it. Also, you can dip the fish in a separate container and then transfer them back to the main tank - that lets you medicate while allowing for water changes. If you go to the koivet site, I think he has instructions on how to do this, and Fishkiller can also tell you about the tub to tub method. Your poor fish and you are going through quite a struggle now - I read the post ahead of this one - and I do hope he'll pull through.
(Briefly, for the tub to tub method, you need at least two large (at least 2 gallon) buckets with treated water and airstones. More is better. (Because you can have pretreated water in a third bucket at all times while the second is being rinsed.)Gently move your fish to one bucket - dose the water as appropriate, but *don't* over dose - and in 24 hours move to the second bucket and rinse the first very thoroughly. Feed lightly, no more than once a day. Keep moving the fish from bucket to bucket for at least a week. Keep airstones going in the buckets, rinse and dry them very thorougly between uses, but don't use any chemicals except for aquarium salts and any meds your vet may recommend. I hope this is clear. I have never used this method, not having enough large buckets in the house, but it's a very ancient Chinese method that's often successful.)

Yes, changing water is a very good idea especilly when you are medicating your water for a sick fish. Every week is a good idea, or less and every 1 or 2 days if you are using a bowl. Add medication back to your water every time you do a water change. For example, you have a 5 gallon tank, you change 25% of the water and add day old water and then you add the medication correct for the 5 gallon over again.

About the salt. Doc Wellfish says (on the box) one rounded tablespoon per five gallons.
It definately wont hurt, and it will probably help. Good Luck.
