If I use 50W Heater in a 6.5 gallon betta tank, will it be ok?

wav.gif Good question! I'm not sure if it's ok or not, but I've been testing a 50 watt in a 3.5 gallon tank for the past few days. I have it set at 22 degrees, and it's held the temperature at a steady 24 degrees...

As long as it's a *good* heater, and you can fit it in w/o any part sticking out or anything, it should be ok, but watch it. Don't try using a cheap one in something that small though, it will easily swing the temp and make the fish more stressed than a stable but slightly low temp.

i second ceridwens posted suggestion. too many people go get "a heater" for their tank/s. i believe that not a dime should be spared when heaters are purchased. if the thermostat wears out pre-maturely (cheap ones often do so, very quickly), it could quite possibly cause some serious damage.

Cheers guys. I've got a couple of unused 50 watt heaters by Rena, I think they're supposed to be pretty good. But on second thought I think I'll fork out the £15 for a 25 watt Visitherm. I've been reading that they're the most reliable.
