One of my female bettas is pineconing! Its very slight but noticable. I added a little epsom salt and an broad spectrum antibiotic. Is there anything else I should do? sad.gif

Hi Nykole! Sorry to hear about your girl. But I don't really don't have any advise to give. I'm going throught the same thing with my male Bo. Maybe we can compare notes?
You added the epsom right to her tank? I gave Bo an epsom bath for about half an hour. Maybe I should put some in his water? I didn't think you could do that for some reason. What antibiotic did you use? I put some Jungle fungus clear in his water. As for what else, I'm hoping for a miracle now. He's so huge it looks like he could pop at any moment. Since it doesn't sound like Mari's pine coning is terribly bad yet, I think you've got a better chance for her making it. Bo looks like he swallowed a big marble! And he wouldn't eat today, either. I'll be rooting for you both, hun!

If your betta is bloated and has "pineconing" of scales, this is called dropsy. It may possibly be cured by injections of antibiotics or raising temperature to 86 degrees F and increasing the aeration (add bubbler), which will kill aeromonas bacteria.

Good luck!
