What's the best way to bring down the pH slowly after a spike, and how slowly is safe enough?

Slow and safe is .2 units per day. Do you know what caused the spike? An upward spike is very rare, unless you're using CO2 for plants.

I'm not sure how it raised yet, but I'm looking into it. I'm thinking that I might have used colder water than I usually use, which is harder because it doesn't pass through the heater.

Yesterday was the last day of medication and I when I came home from work the fish were visibly stressed out. I thought that the medication might have caused a large problem with the cycle, but the nitrite level was nill and ammonia was only a little high. I then tested the pH and sure enough it was 10x more basic than normal. I'm really worried about hte fish because that's quite the jump to make in one day. I'm treated them with stress coat and am hoping for the best.

So what's the best way to bring it down? I'm having the problem that after I bring it down a couple of points, it goes back up at least a point. Definitely not good for the fish. Does anyone know how to do it?
