Full Version: I Thought I Had Recovered...

And then the bettas.. they had just gotten in a new shipment, and there were about 40 in individual plastic baggies, with just enough water to cover them. There were only 3 employees working the floor and each had a line up of about 4 customers to handle So I doubt they would have had time to get the bettas out ASAP. I picked up one that had the dirtiest water, I couldn't even tell what colour he was, and slipped him in my pocket I don't know why, I just felt bad for him! I guess that makes me a thief! Thud.gif Now he is in clean water he is a lovely red with a purple body.

All of the bettas that were already on the shelf had just been cleaned and were looking good... very surprising. I looked at the lower shelf that was dark, and found a dirty cup of water with a betta lying on the bottom..I thought it was just a sinker hidden out of view... but there were TWO fish in the cup!!! Both alive. I separated them.
Looking closer on the shelf, I found yet another dirty gross cup with THREE, count them, THREE bettas! I guess somebody thought it was a sick joke and hid the bettas so nobody would see.. mad1.gif because they obviously weren't found for water change day. I also found it too much of a coincidence that all 5 were red fish. cry3.gif

The supervisor said I could take them home but he couldn't give me a guarantee. Now in clean, warm, melafixed water, they are all looking like they will survive and heal, and even some of them are happy enough to try and pick a fight with my bettas! heartpump.gif wub.gif

Anybody want to adopt a rescue betta?? happydance.gif
Lachfa
You stole the fish - I don't think that is something you should be posting. That is wrong.
Lyndzi
Well I figured if the supervisor willingly gave me 5 bettas, that 1 more that was dying in brown/yellow water wouldn't hurt. I doubt they even had time to unpack them yesterday because it was so busy and there were only 3 employees working. It probably would have died anyways.
Lachfa
Then maybe you should have just asked him for it. There are children on here and I don't think that bragging about stealing a fish is what you should be doing. I think you could have made the post and left that part out.
Joelio
Umm...Or it could set a good example to explain that if I fish is looking bad rescue it, or they should ask about it for sure. But what she did was couragous. And to tell you, I was with her and the betta was really looking bad. And I think that the fish would be dead by now if it wasn't for her.

GO LYNDZI!!!

Okay... well I can't edit my post, so..

**DISCLAIMER**

The owner of this site in no way supports theft, in any way, shape or form. The actions of the individual in this post, and any possible consequences thereafter, are the sole problem of the individual in question. Do not steal a fish. Even if you knowingly received 12 free in the same day, and the fish in question is forgotten, neglected and dying. The moral issue of cheating a heartless, cruel, profit-driven chain company that supports puppy, kitten and fish mills out of a $0.50 fish that would soon be written of as "DOA" far outweighs the self-righteous humane act of saving a defenceless animal from certain death.

Thanks.
Lyndzi
PS thank you Joel.

Joel was with me yesterday and saw the short staffed, stressed out workers who could not possibly have unpacked those poorly shipped animals until after store closing, and likely several of them didnt make it through the night.

Joel also saw the way in which the rude, selfish manager acted towards his employees in front of customers, and the broken, salt encrusted AquaClear minis that were being sold for $30...

So who's really being cheated?

An eye for an eye..
Joelio
Oh and the fifty buck five year old biolife filter too. We got that one for cheaper wink.gif...NOT STEALING THOUGH!!!

Lyndzi my point is that stealing is wrong and you could have posted you rescued these fish with posting that you stole one of them. Point made?

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Oh and let's not forget thou shalt not steal.
Lyndzi
Okay fair enough, we have both made our opinions clear and I have made a disclaimer.

I am borrowing a friends digi cam to get some shots of the little guys, so I can do a before/after comparison. smile.gif

Can't wait to see the pics.
Joelio
I know that stealing is wrong but something about this reminds me of the poor man stealing a loaf of bread to feed his starving family. See the point. If you could only see her in a perstore, you would admire the way she saves these guys.

I must say that if you took the betta without asking and it was dead i kinda find it's alright .... im sure it was going to be flushing time for the poor thing or would of just been left to die so i must say it was alright...... (just my opinion....,but it isn't right to steal,oh and I agree with joel about someone stealing food for his starving family,it's kinda of the same thing..... and i think everyone would have tooken the risk to steal food if you were starving and poor....so ya...)

Sounds great ! 6 bettas? wow can't wait for pictures biggrin.gif
Lyndzi
Just an update on the little guys..

One started to get really bad tufts of fungus around his gills and head area,
and I didn't have much time to waste deciding whether it was bacterial or fungal. So I dosed Aquarisol and Triple Sulfa, along with melafix. He was sitting in the top corner of his bowl breathing heavily and not moving much.

But this morning he is actually swimming around and flaring at his neighbour! I'm over the moon as I didn't expect half of them to live. They are all eating voraciously too so that is a good sign. I'm trying to locate the camera today, I forgot to get it last night Thud.gif
Lachfa
That is great - keep us posted.
Joelio
