I was just wondering if you can mix ammo-lock with other water conditioners (like aquasafe which is what I use). I want to use ammo-lock when I do water changes because my tap has an ammonia reading of one. I know ammolock takes out chlorine and chloramine, but it doesn't say it takes out hard metals which Aquasafe does. Also aquasafe has a little stress coat put into it to. So...I just wondered if anyone knew whether I could use both at the same time to conditioin new water.

I tink you should probley use just one!

Normally I only use Aquasafe, but I want to use ammo-lock to make the 1ppm of ammonia in my tap water non-toxic to the fish. But I'm afraid to use just Ammo-lock to condition the water because I don't know if it gets rid of hard metals in the water. Do you think Aquasafe alone can take care of the 1ppm of ammonia?

I have used both in my 29 gallon consistantly for a month at a time with no problems. But I have only had gold fish for a few months, so I don't know if my advise is the best. I just know from my experience it has worked very well.
I used them both when I had some ammonia problems with my tap water as well. Now I have a water filter attached to the tap.
I would fill up 5 gallon buckets the night before my water change of about 20% or 6 gallons. Just before I started cleaning my tank I would add ammolock and Aqua Safe to each bucket and stir. When I finished vacuuming the tank, I just added each bucket of water.
I do think I like Amquel + a little better than Ammolock. It seems to work faster, but it does warn on the bottle that you should have extra aeration because it can moderately reduce oxygen levels in the first few hours after application.
I hope this helps.

Thanks so much for your thoughts. smile.gif So Amquel will take care of the ammonia in the tap?
fisharenewtome
This is the statement from the company:

AmQuel removes ammonia, chloramine, toxic pheromones, and chlorine. It is used for water changes, crowded aquaria, and control of toxic ammonia during the nitrogen cycle.

BUT there is a cavaet

Residual AmQuel and its reaction products are incompatible with the Nessler and Winkler-type test reagents, resulting in false, high ammonia and low oxygen concentration readings. All other types of test kits produce accurate test results, such as ammonia test kits using salicylate-type reagents. Kordon's AquaTru Test Kit #35970 for salt water and #35980 for fresh water are recommended for accurate test results. AmQuel will temporarily (for approximately 12 hours) lower redox

So make sure to use the correct ammonia test kits!!

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info Jenn! I'll have to check my test kit- it's the aquarium pharmaceuticals one.
