All you need to do is keep your betta in its cup you got it in and put regular tap water in its tank and add aqua safe- water conditiner, read directions. You can get that at any pet store nnnnnn has it too.For food I use color diet but there are about three other kinds you can get.Hope I helped!

biggrin.gif Hi V Welcome to the forum!!!! Congrats on your new betta! Caught you by surprise, did it?First of all V,your betta needs at least a 1 gal. container/tank( or bigger.-If you can go bigger-even betta! rolleyes.gif You will need a water conditioner-something that takes out Chlorine/chloramines etc. You can feed betta numerous brands of betta bites--Not sure what brands in your part of the country. A betta's tummy is only the size of his eye so you want to feed sparingly. You can also feed him frozen bloodworms- my bettas love those! He will need only 3-to 4 betta bites no matter how much he begs! Your betta will also need to have weekly water changes-sometimes more often, depending on size of container/tank- When you do the water changes, make sure to use the water conditioner, and have the new water as close to the temps that he's allready in. Speaking of temps, bettas kind of like warmer temps. I guess a safe area would be between 75-79 degrees. They may be able to go slighty lower in 70's ,but I find that my bettas become alot more active when it's warmer. Bettas also appreciate a little plant to rest upon(which is normal for them. Just make sure that the things that you use for his tank should be "Betta safe" so they won't tear up his fins. Well V,that will get you started for now,if you think of anything else-don't hesitate to ask!!! Good luck and keep us posted on how the little guy is doing. Do you know what kind you have? What are his color's?

is it ok to use sink water would that be ok

Sink water is okay,as long as you have a water conditioner that takes all the bad things out of the water like chlorine-chloramines etc. If you don't have any type of conditioner to use then you are going to have to let your sink water sit in a nice clean container for a few days so those bad things will go away on their own.

rolleyes.gif OOPS...I forgot to say that I use 1gal. milk containers to keep my water in. Of course you have to wash/rinse it out numerous times to make sure it's clean enough to use for water. If you do this and your tank water looks cloudy/milky ohmy.gif ,you didn't rinse the container out well enough.

I have been using pure spring water for my betta - set at room temp. Tap water i think would be fine to use too, as long as its treated or aged.
