I put a bubble wall on the base of the back wall of my 20 gallon aquarium creating a continuous flow of gentle bubbles 24 hours a day. It looks pretty and my fish seem to enjoy swimming through the bubbles. Should I leave it on all the time or is there anything adverse about using it? It is a long slender tube with suction cups - not an air stone.

There's no reason you shouldn't run a bubblewand 24/7 if you want to. Extra aeration is always a good thing and yes, most fish seem to actively enjoy playing in the bubbles. There aren't any adverse effects that I know of.

I don't see why you would have to close it for the night or not keep it on 24/7.... i think it should be alright.

Thanks! I will go with that. I read that aquariums need constant aeration. However, someone at the pet shop said that an air stone was too stressful for a goldfish bowl. I guess a certain volume of water is required. The fish seem to love the bubbles.

I leave mine on all the time. I saw new bendable ones the other day!

It is the BOWL that is too stressful for the goldfish!!!
In a regular tank, you need air and bubble walls are perfect. I have two in my 50 gallon plus 2 bio wheel filter and a spray bar from the eheim canister. Lots of moving water and the fish love it.
It is fun to watch them play in the bubbles.

Bigger more powerful pumps, more bubbles - I have tons of bubbles - a bubble wall on at least 3 sides of each tank. With the various decorations and such, there is always a "sweet spot" they can sleep in, and all the walls guarantee that there is always a "toy" for them to play in. They LOVE them!

I have one of the new bendable ones in my hospital tank..... I'm not too impressed. They look just like the basic green ones with the suction cups, but I just don't like em. If you want to put em straight, there's no way. In my 55 gallon, I have a black heavy one that has wires in it so it can be bended any shape, straightened out, and is really soft on the outside. It's nice and heavy too, so you don't have to worry about it taking a trip up the glass. It's long enough that it runs the entire length of my tank! I love it. I found it at Teske's on the clearance rack!

I agree with Wynkin, Goldfish stress out in a bowl.. have anyone try looking out from the inside of a goldfish bowl before??
I did it once when I was a kid when it still fit my head.. Thinking I would be one of those space cartoon character that only wearing a glass bowl over their head.. but gosh, when the bowl was over my head, I can't see a thing at all.. it is worse than wearing my granny's glasses!! the bowl being round, has cause an effect like reading glasses and how do you like staying in such a place?? No way, everything is blurry..
ok, back to bubble walls.. I use them.. they are great.. jus make sure the water current produced is not too strong where the fishes have to struggle against it.. with a nice bubble wall with moderate water current, the fishes will be happier (a playground for them) and it looks better.. technically speaking, bubbles spread over wider area comparing to just an air stone.. spreading over larger area means it dispel more unwanted gas and allowing more oxygen to dissolve into the water too... there again, it takes up more space than jus an air stone.. this you have to decide yourself..
hope this helps
cheers

A couple of my orandas love their bubble wall. I catch them in there all the time, sometimes they just hover over the bubbles. I make fun of them getting a "bubble massage".

he goes on the air tube right where the bubbles are blowing on him and he hangs out there for hours
