Hi y' all. I got bored of my tropical fish tank and restarting it to put goldies in it. It previously had a Penguin 270 w/BioWheel. Now, as goldies need 10x, I will be 30 behind what I should have in a 30 gallon tank. I used to have seventeen medium sized tropicals in there and it worked perfectly, never letting the water condition down. I only intend on getting 2 or 3 goldfish.

My question is: With two goldfish, would I be able to keep with my 270 and increased water changes?

If no, I am planning on putting a Whisper Filter (forgot the number, but it was, in its days of use, on a 20 gallon) with the 270, which should give me a lot more than I need.

All right?

go ahead put your whisper on you never have enough filtration. also you can alternate cleaning your filters when changing and vacuaming the tank that way keep good bio,s put clean your spongers in tank water you took out

Having multiple filters on tanks is great. I have 3 filters on my 50 gal, and I like it because I can clean them out at different times and still have plenty of bio-bugs in the ones I'm not cleaning at the moment. Having the correct filtration is much easier than changing water more often so I'd put the whisper on too. smile.gif

More power!!! Get as much filtration in there as you can. Can't hurt the goldies.

I have 2 filters on my 55 gal. an aquaclear 500 and a Penguin 330. Like bruce and valkyrie said put the whisper on the tank as a second filter. Alternate cleaning the filters so that you will still have plenty of biobugs left. I'm sure your tank will be fine. Let us know what type of goldfish you get. smile.gif

Thanks everyone. I'll put it on, in fact I just did earlier. wink.gif I've had the tank up and running for a while, so I have a minor shopping list. I get that and I'm getting my goldfish.

I'll probably be getting a fantail, shubunkin, and I'm not sure about the third. I like Fantails, I kept them two years ago.

so long it does not take up too much space that will restrict movement or cut down tank capacity where additives such as ornaments and filters will lessen your 30..

secondly, water current.. so long not too much current is produced that cause your fishes to struggle..

otherwise, more filters means you have spare filter with bacteria running lest one is down or your overclean and destroy the bacteria on the other..

extra filter also means the tank will be cleaner too..

one more point, but does not concern fish.. is the noise it produce.. it may affect fish in some way, but they might get use to it.. but what about you?? Does it affect you?? I have 6 tanks, 3 - 4 filters each tank, 4 air stones or 3 airstones with 1 air curtain in each tank.. nope, not affecting me.. tongue.gif in fact I enjoy listening to all the pumps hymming away while watching my fishes..

cheers

I actually enjoy the noise. I was surprised, because according to its name (lol), the Whisper does not make that much noise.

The water current is not that bad which the filters on. I am planning on butting one airstone in, but that shoud not do anything, so I think I am okay on that respect.
