eylo..i have 2 huge sword plants in my goldie tank and theyve been doing great for the past 4 months or so, but suddenly theyre both dying and the edges of the plants are turning brown and black

does anyone know why they would suddenly die? i just siphoned and did a water change so the water should be of good quality if that makes any difference..

.. n is there something that might save them from dying?

How much and what kind of light do you have on your tank, how many gallons is it, what kind of substrate, how many hours is your light on per day, what are your params, and what and how much fertilizers/co2 do you use (if any)?

55 gal. tank, um not sure about the lights but theres 4 lightbulbs, and theyre in 2 "eclipse 2" filtration/lighting systems for hoods if that helps , i just have small gravel, i leave the lights on probably 12 hours a day, and my params are
pH: 8
nitrate: 40
nitrite: 0
ammonia: 0
n i dont use any fertilizers or co2

Have the plants been growing and making new leaves and roots in the four months you've had them, or just staying about the same or only making a leaf or two?
If they've been doing great and growing and just suddenly started dying the only thing I can think of that would be wrong with them is that you've used meds they're sensitive to, or added salt, or used some kind of chemical in the water that they didn't like -- have you put anything different in the water lately, meds, conditioners, algae or water clearing treatment, anything?
If the plants haven't been growing, they might not be getting the proper lighting and have started to died because of that. Most swords need medium light or better, 2-3 watts per gallon, and plants need a full-spectrum flourescent light. Swords also like a root tab fertilizer pushed into the substrate (I use Flourish root tabs for my plants), if they haven't been getting fertilized they might not be too happy.
Hope this helps some and you can save your plants!

they have been growing pretty well, they both look almost like trees now compared to when i bought them lol n i tried to pull one out of the gravel to siphon under it but i couldnt get it out so i assume its pretty well rooted now, and one of them make little baby plants all the time- but i have added alot of amquel + recently, i usually add some with new water i put in there but ive been pouring more in the water lately so perhaps that is killing them? ill have to look into the fertilizers for them, thank you for the advice!

Have you thought about changing your light bulb? Most lights only last for about 6mos. Although they still look as bright, they may not be outputting quite as much light as they once were. I would look into replacing those. I usually keep the old one just in case I break the new one and need a temp replacement.
Goodluck!
