I have been reading the forum and seen a few post on adding a ball valve and a return from a canister filter to a uv sterilizer. Can someone shed some light on this topic ? I have a fluval 204 canister filter and a 9 watt turbo-twist uv sterilizer . Should i install a valve with a return line also ?

I'm not real familiar with the Fluval 204s, but I have a Fluval 304 and a 9 watt Turbo-twist on my 29ga quarantine tank.

The 304 has this wierd 16mm hose ribbed hose, and I couldn't come up with a secure method of attaching this hose to any standard pipe fittings.

I e-mailed Hagen about this and they suggested using the soft rubber connectors that connect the hose to the inlet and outlet plastic pieces. That leaked like a sieve. So I bought a small power head to for the sterilizer.

One other thing you might try. I talked to a guy at my LPS and he said he was able to heat up the end of a piece of 1/2 dia. soft plastic hose and force it over the oulet on the inlet outlet piece that attached to the canister.

I looked at doing that and thought... No way

doesn't 5/8" fit 16/22mm ? Or did i miss understand.

Yes, 16mm and 5/8 (15.875mm)are basicly the same, but I wasn't able to find 5/8 hose barbs or 3/4 to 5/8 reducers anyplace. Maybe you live in a bigger city than I do and can find metric pipe fittings. If you can, you might be able to find something that will work. My 9watt Turbo-twist came with connectors for either 1/2 or 3/4 hose, so some how you'll need to find some fittings that will either go from 1/2 (13mm) to 16mm (5/8) or from 3/4 (19mm) to 16mm.

Good luck
