When I 1st got Sid from the pet shop the guy told me they lived in cold water..that was in january..he lived in cold water for about 6 weeks then he suddenly became inactive and I just knew he was going to die..I found applesnail.net and at that time I didnt know what was wrong with him..but they quickly put me right on the temps and within a couple of days of warm water he was back to normal and he is the daddy of 6 clutches that I am waiting to hatch...so they can live in room temp water but will go into a slow hibernation after a while..hope this helps..Linda

With my snails i usally don't worry about the temp, i heard that
keeping them to a colder temp they are less active and they could
live a normal life spand but if they are in a very very hot tank
there lifes are alittle shorter. Im not sure if this is true but i read
it off the net.

Having them live in cold water slows down their matebolism so they move slower and get more inactive(they will also live longer) but it doesn't hurt them. as long as the temp is warm enough that they are still eating then it is fine. I have mine in a pond which is cold water so i just plan to move them inside when it gets reallycold in the winter.

If it is too cold, as in below 65 degrees F, it can be lethal. Snails are from warm areas like Mexico and Florida, and do better in warmer water. But it is true that the warmer it is, the faster they mature. But they are also happier.. so..?
