you could go to Petsmart and find a tank divider biggrin.gif

I've seen tank deviders at superpet (a canadian chain) and little critters (not sure if this is a chain store or if there is just the one in ottawa). I'm planning to get a couple female bettas to put in a five gallon (they don't need to be seperated).

Another option is to get a peice of plexi-glass or glass cut to size and to use aquarium grade silicone to fasten it to the walls of the tank.

Most of the aquarium diveders that I have seen have perferations to let water flow through. This can possibly lead to two problems: if one betta gets sick the disease we probably carry over through the water to the other fish (in my experience bettas seem to get sick more often then goldies). The other problem is that bits of the betta's long fins will stick through the perferations when the fish is near the devider, and his room mate might take a chomp out of him (I've read of this happening on BettaTalk, my other favorite fishie site).

I wish you the best of luck, and would like to know how it turns out (if it goes well I might consider doing the same thing for two of my boys! smile.gif ) wav.gif

thank you for your reply smile.gif

I went to Petsmart and they did not have dividers for five gallon, so I decided to go my first plan and get a two gallon container for my betta that is now in a one gallon.. but I do appreciate your telling me how to make a glass divider if I can ever change the outside filter to an undergravel one..

I Believe The Site Poofed,But There Used To Be An Article On Betta Starz About Making A Homemade Divider Using Report Cover Spines,Silicone Glue,And Those Weaving Tablet Things.

Basicaly Heres How You Make One:

Cut Your Report Cover Spines To About An Inch Length And Line Them Up And Glue Them To The Inside Of The Tank Using Aquarium Safe Silicone Glue. Then Trim The Weaving Tablets So They Will Fit Inside The Report Cover Spines [The Spines Hold The Weaving Tablets In Place,So They Must Be Aligned Correctly]

Hope That Helps.

P.S. The Silicone Glue,And Weaving Tablets Can Be Bought At nnnnnn.
For The Spines You May Need To Visit A Office Supply Store.

Another great thing to use as a tank divider are those plastic aida canvases from the craft store. They are only a few cents. I am sure they are available in Canada as well. You cut them to size, and then you can glue them on with aquarium sealer as well...smile.gif

thank you for your replies..

the report spines, my brain would never be able to figure that out, but the plastic canvas, that is a very good idea.. thank you!

You slide the edges of the plastic canvas into the report cover spines, the spines are much easier to silicone to the side of the tank than the canvas itself is, and then you can easily remove the divider temporarily if you need to by sliding the canvas out of the spines. When you hold the stuff in your hands it's very self explanatory.

Sorry for dragging up an old thread but i need to divide my tank and found this thread, however i only want to do it temporaly (sp? sorry, not awake). Does the silicone come off easily and how long does it take to dry? The tank i want to divide currently has 2 fish in it and i don't want to move them and empty the tank to fit a divider.

Has anyone had any success with a tempory divider? any suggestions?

Thanks,

Rachel
