I got my apple snail a few days ago, and she can't eat enough. She's eaten a slice of cucumber every day since I got her. I cut the cucmber round-ways, and she's been eating a WHOLE one every day. The second day I had her, I tried NOT giving her one, cuz I figured she was full! (Ya'd think, right?) Well, she decided to attack my plant! Which I knew they'd eat the plant, but I was told that she wouldn't as long as I fed her something like a cucumber or lettuce a couple times a week. but I'm having to do this EVERY day!! Is this normal? Oh man, she's finishing up her cucumber right now, so I gotta go get some romaine lettuce going. Uh.... she's heading for my plant as we (I) speak! (Write). AAAAAAAAAAAAA

i suggest taking her out of the tank and putting her in a bowl full of tank water feed her alot of cucumbera nd lettuce for an hour or so.... this way she gets full.... they generally will sleep for a day after that or a lil bit or maybe not at all... buts he will stay full until next feeding time.... i do this with my snails as i had teh same rpob lol
keep us posted and good luck!!!

Ah. Jeez. Well, She leaves the plants alone as long as she has a big pie of cucumber or romaine........ well, she's working on the lettuce now, I'll see what she does when that's gone. Thanks Hamsta. I may have to do that. Maybe she didn't get enough food at the petstore and now she's piggin out.

thank goodness i don't have real plants!! i can imagine how my gluttons could destroy everything!!
I don't think you can over-feed a snail, so just keep pluggin' her up!

Oh man, I think that snails eating more than I do!! She's taken a break as of right now. She devoured a large piece (about 9 inches long and 5 inches wide) piece of romaine. I know the fish helped a *bit*, but they're not really into romaine that much. So anyway, the lettuce is gone, and she's kinda hangin out by the veggie clip. (Probably waiting for more!!)

Thanks!! I was really suprised, and it meant a lot to me knowing that people think I know some stuff, and don't think I'm a total moron!! I feel more like a moron tho!! I'm still at a loss for a name. I've just been calling her "naughty snail". Cuz she won't leave my plant alone 'less she has food. Maybe the name's just gonna stick, I dunno.

I guess you read none of my snail posts about "CHEWBACKA",huh? He was bought with two other apples and tripled in size over the other's in a month! LOL The size of zucchinni and cucumber's that he was able to fit into his mouth was obscene! He could eat a whole cuke in ten minute's,burp wipe the crumbs off,rub his hands together and head right to the plants in my planted tank!

In one month,my planted tank went from this lush tropical look,to Mt. St, Helen's after it erupted!! All you saw in the tanks were these little "sticks" that use to have leaves.I ended up giving my snails to my daughter who does the fake plant look(not that they're safe from the beast either!) lol

Snails were something I always wanted in my tank... so were live plants. The 2 didn't work out because the snail would sneak up to the base of my plant and chop it off like a chainsaw. They ate everything. I ended up giving the snails to a friend who had fake plants in her tank.
That chewbacca comment was hilarious!

my two snails are named "squishy" - because when i first got her, thats all i could think of.. inside her shell was her 'squishy'
and my newer one, "Toot" because she's always on the go, tootin' around the tank exploring, and surfing the water
