Well we just installed a 295 gallon pond! And I want to know who long to we need to wait for the liner to settle before we start working on the border?

In my humble opinion I would say it depends on how good a job you did of installing the liner and I would say that applies for both a preformed pond liner and a soft liner. I am of the opinion that it both cases the soil below the bottom of the pond should be packed and if sand is used, it should also be packed. With the hard liners you pack a soil sand mixture around the sides being careful not to pack so much or so hard that you cause the liner to bulge in. The soil sides where a soft liner is used should be settled soil that you haven't disturbed. So, there shouldn't be any settling and you should be able to work on the border without delay. One word of caution about the border is that in my opinion it should slope away from the pond and not toward it. You don't want water from the area surrounding the pond to run into the pond if it can be avoided. I'm sure you'll get other opinions.

Also, the rocks tend to slope inward over time - at least mine do. I have to redo them from time to time. Keep people from walking on them.
