Please help, you may know that Iposted here before with a Godfish with boils on it's skin, the boils went eventually, but unfortunately now after about 2 months they are back! George the Goldfish looks terrible, his body has become lumpy and misshaped. Every day another boil surfaces, breaks and leaks puss. He's still eating and is being fed Medi-Gold, but it's not seeming to help. I live in the UK so it's hard to get decent treatments too, and the vet is hopeless, but I don't want to lose my fish, he's 8ish yrs old, and a Comet. Pic of latest surfeced boil:

Please can someone tell me if Goldfish can get Nodular disease?
Please can someone suggest a cure for this, it's now the 3rd time he's had it and it gets worse each time.

Water perams are fine as the tank has only been up and running a short time, and I've recently bought all new filter, heater, etc and am changing 20ltrs of my 80ltr tank weekly, plus hoovering up the fish poop. Tank is salted to 'tonic' level and there are no other additives atm.

Help! You are my last chance to save my fish.

Wow, scarybex. It looks like I have the same problem with my Veiltail.

I don't know if they are suceptable to this or what, but mine came back too. I treated with antibiotics, and Hydrogen Peroxide. It makes me think it is bacterial, but I don't know either. I thought it was a "cyst" which I'm not sure if that is much different from a boil.

From what I can find, it's bacterial related. But, I'm
open to someone else's opinion.

I'd keep going with the Medi-gold, it sometimes takes
awhile for it to clean out the problem. I had a bacterial
infection, and it was a month or longer before it really
started to heal/disapear. If you notice that thing pop,
clean it with a Qtip dipped in Hydrogen peroxide or
iodine. Scrub under the scales surronding the area.
Don't worry if scales fall off, they'll regrow. Make sure
to not get any in the gills or eyes, do this only once.
Then you'll want to use a medicated cream like Panalog,
Neosporin + pain relief or whatever you have available.
Gently rub the affected area and under the scales too.
This can be done once or twice a day. I would slowly
bring the temp up to 80-82f(26c). This helps increase
the digestive system and boosts the immune system.

Another thing I found that might help is the bucket to
bucket method. Here's a link that describes the
method:

ed586--you may want to try part or all of these too.

It doesn't seem to be working this time though, he's been on it for a week already and more lumps are surfacing. There is now a large one on his side, almost the length of him, it's not got a head yet.

He's sitting on the bottom and is now reluctant to eat. If that gets worse I will syringe feed him and see if he picks up. Weird that the other fiah is totally healthy.

Anything else you think I should add to the tank?

Good luck with your vieltail! I hate feeling useless, I wish I knew how to treat this for the best.

hi,

i did some reasearch on these "boils" a while back and found a few pages that describe this disease as fish tuberculosis. they went on to say that it is somewhat different than what we humans can catch and that there was no cure. they also said that it was very possible for it to spread to other fish in the same tank. eith that in mind, i would isolate him, if you havent already.sad.gif

the pages that im referring to described these symptoms in almost exact detail as yours. ill see if i can find them for you, it may take a few minutes.........

Thanks, that does sound like it. Yik! They say some success has been had with Maracyn 2, does anyone know how I could get hold of some. I live in the UK so would have to find a company that would ship here, or somone nice with a PayPal account that could buy some and ship it to me!
