Okay so heres the story, I fed him lastnight before i went to bed, around 1am or so, he seemed to have eaten all of his food.. and it seemed to be all gone.. when i came to look at him this morning, he was at the top of the water just floating, so i left him alone for a few hours and went and watched a movie, and when it was over.. around 1pm -1:30 pm I canme in here to feed him (because i will not be home later today) so i gave him i think about 6 pellets of of ( Aqua Culture Betta Food) I seen him eat about 2 pellets or so (not knowing how many if ant fell to the rocks) but i look in his tank and seen one floating at the top of the tank one of which he didnt touch! and this isnt like him, he usually eats all in one shot, theres times he goes for a swim and then just lays either on the bottom of the tank, or spend most of the time up top just floating... Is this normal??

Also, he seems to want to sleep right after eating, instead of swiming and playing like hes been for the past few days since i had him, what i need to know is this all normal acts of a healthy and happy fish, or is my little guy sick??

Please any advice would be helpful huh.gif

Hmmm. I'm not sure about your individual betta, but one of mine will only eat 4 pellets at a time, and then he's full. If there's more than 4 pellets in the water, he'll spit then right out and then ignore them. Maybe your guy just wasn't hungry enough to eat 6.

And you said he goes to sleep right after eating.. is he always sleeping or acting listless, or just after dinnertime? Because it's natural for some bettas to chill out once in a while.. but a lot of sitting on the bottom or staying very still can indicate a problem.

Hmmm i dont really know for sure, I mean for the past three days since i had him, he was moving really good, hardly resting at all... and today i mean, he does move about.... just doesnt seem like his normal..

I looked at his water, and it is crystal clear yet since wednesday, his fins are fulled fanned at all times, noy no sign of rot, and his color is beautiful.. and every now and then i look at him hes in a different part of his tank.. so i would say that he is moving.. i just dont know how often...lol.. i know he goes up to the top... and he blows his bubbles (sometimes 3 at a time) so that seems normal.. and he sometimes goes down to the bottom and pick at the rocks.
I looked at the top of his tank, and from the looks of it, the piece of food that i saw on the top is now gone, (unless it fell to the bottom i dont know) he must have ate it!
Sometimes it looks like he just stops in the middle of the tank and looks out at me like he knows im in the room with him, and sometrimes he looks as if hes looking at the top like he needs food or something.. I dont know for sure, and what the sign are cuz for me its hard to tell what hes doing or thinking..
I found something on the internet that reads the following
QUOTE
: Betta: Cunning, elegant, majestic, smart, temperamental, likes his space, likes his peace. Moves slow, likes napping a lot.

Like i said i dont know if this is the case with lucky, but all i know is im scared.. that something is wrong with him, but then again some signs show him just doing the normal.. i dont know... guess ill just have watch him for a few days, see how things go.. Thank you all for your help... if anyone has more advice or info on this matter for me please let me know what your thoughts are.

This is lucky as of yesterday (May 28 2004 ) only 3 days after i purchased him at "Blue Water" - a petstore in Northeastern Pennsylvania..

What size container is he in? It looks pretty small which could mean that the ammonia has built up already. Also the pellets might be bloating him. Some people say not to feed them more than 3-4 a day.
try getting frozen bloodworms. Theyre easy to feed and bettas love them.
aslo nicer to the digestive tract smile.gif Hope he gets better.

Hes in a regular betta tank.. im not sure on the certain size of it, but its enough of just one bettea ( the guy at the pet store told me he would be fine in that) I only ever do give him 3-4 pellets of food, and he eats that ( the guy at the pet store told me thats the right food for him, thats what he was brought up on) so thats what he likes!
I dont think he is sick, because he is moving around alot now, he could have been just resting.. like i said im not sure though, but we will see.. i will give him a little less food, and see what happens..
