I am getting a pond and I want snails to keep the algea down but i plan to have a lot of plants so i don't want one that will eat all of my plants.

My snails phsya acuta love to eat algea but they are so small and esaily eatten i don't think they would be a good algea controll. And apple snails I have heard eat all of the plants. what about ramshore snails or trapdoor snails? i don't really know anything about them.

I am still learning about the different species/types of snails so i'm not sure, but i have read somewhere that there are snails that don't particularly like plants and are OK to put in planted areas... i believe brigs snails..

I think i am going with trapdoor snails. I did some reasearch and they said that they rarely will eat plants (but the big ones can be destructive) also my pond store has very heavly planted ponds and the snails (trapdoor) don't look to me like they are devoring the plants.

I wouldn't recommend snails for algae control period, especially in a cold pond- they are from warm climates and will die below average room temperature.

However, P. Bridgesiis leave plants alone, provided that you give them enough to eat. Which doesn't include algae, because they'd rather eat plants than algae.

I know that apple snails are tropical and i plan to bring them in for the winter they can do okay in cold climates their matabolism slows so they will live longer.

The golden apple snails i had never would never eat my Aquarium
plants and they do also well in ponds.
Well maby the ones i had did well for me but they don't seem to eat so
many plants.

I have an apple snail in a planted tank, and it doesn't eat my plants either. I believe it is a bridgesii. Apparently, there are different varieties of apple snail, and it's tough to tell the difference between them. Some eat plants and some don't. Guess I lucked out! My snail came from Petsmart, so you might want to try getting one from there...
