Hey everyone, last night I was doing a water change in my 75 gallon tank because I relized how nasty the food at the bottom was looking anyways I let out more than I wanted to because my 18 month old took off with some of my chemicals, so I had to chase him down. I use a siphon and then bring the hose in to fill it back up. I had the power strip off but my son turned it back on without me relizing it. I had the filter out of the tank, and then I heard this LOUD boom pop fizz crack my heater busted in my tank. Now I have about 10 fish and no way to do 100% water change with an 18 month old. So I got out what glass I could see and this morning I found a chunk. I have an 14 inch oscar that loves to bang around and move rocks around I just know hes going to get cut, but I have to be at work today from 8-5 so it's gonna have to wait till tonight when my son goes to bed to get cleaned. Im planning on taking all the rocks out luckily they are big rocks and wont be to hard to get all them out. Any suggestion on what to do if he does cut himself ( my oscar )
Thanks in advance
Lisa

I am not so worry about cut.. they will heal by themselves... I only worry about swallowing it!! that I am helpless... if human swllow a piece of glass, operation is required but I dun know about fish.... I would vacuum the bottom as much as I can.. isolate the fish to buckets first then remove rocks and vacuum ever corner you can.. and not forgetting to clean up the rocks lest some glass cling onto it..
becareful, dun end up cutting urself..

Don't feel bad, I did the same thing months ago. I think there are still a few slivers of glass mixed in with the gravel! Now I have the heaters in all the tanks turned sideways (horizontally) and near the bottom of the tank, so hopefully it won't happen again!

u still have piece of glasses in the tank mixed with the gravel?? gosh, that is so dangerous.. perhaps you might consider removing them, lest someone (either ur fish or yourself) got hurt!

I think I read somewhere that when that happened to somebody, they manually sifted through all of the gravel with a strainer..
