I put it in some hot water and mix it until it is mostly disolved. Then I add cold water to make it about the same temp as the tank water. Then I throw it in. The occasional crystal is not dissolved, but I make sure to lure the goldfish to the other side of the tank when I dump it in. If they do swim by the dropping salt, they have always ran away really fast, never seen one really get hurt by salt before.
best to use water from the tank.... stir and stir till all salt is dissolved... if not, pour in the salt solution without pouring in any salt, scoop another scoop of water from the tank and stir.. repeat till all salt is gone...
NEVER pour undissolved salt into tank.. why?? fish may eat them.. yah, it may not harm them now.. but do you know high salt intake is one of the main cause for kidney problem for human?? how about fish?? that sudden intake of salt will wreck its internal organ and it takes time before the damage to show.. when it shows, it will be disastrous and hard to save.. in fact quite impossible to save.. how do you save a person with damaged kidney??
hope this helps..
cheers..
