With Aquarium salt do you just put in directly into your tank??
thanks

I put it in some hot water and mix it until it is mostly disolved. Then I add cold water to make it about the same temp as the tank water. Then I throw it in. The occasional crystal is not dissolved, but I make sure to lure the goldfish to the other side of the tank when I dump it in. If they do swim by the dropping salt, they have always ran away really fast, never seen one really get hurt by salt before.

When I am changing my water on a weekly basis, I add the salt, the buffers and any other additive to the water BEFORE adding it to the tank.

I measure out the amount of water I am putting back in, treat it and stir it up. Then I remove that same amount of water from the tank and replace it. That way I know exactly how much water is coming out and how much salt to replace.

Adding meds or anything of any nature is better done in as big a dilution as possible to avoid a fish accidentally swimming through a pocket of concentration.

best to use water from the tank.... stir and stir till all salt is dissolved... if not, pour in the salt solution without pouring in any salt, scoop another scoop of water from the tank and stir.. repeat till all salt is gone...

NEVER pour undissolved salt into tank.. why?? fish may eat them.. yah, it may not harm them now.. but do you know high salt intake is one of the main cause for kidney problem for human?? how about fish?? that sudden intake of salt will wreck its internal organ and it takes time before the damage to show.. when it shows, it will be disastrous and hard to save.. in fact quite impossible to save.. how do you save a person with damaged kidney??

hope this helps..

cheers.. smile.gif

B) Yes PLEASE!!!!! do not pour the salt in the tank with the fish underneath, they can get BURNED by the salt. But I use it all the time. Just remember, the salt does not leave over time. The only way to remove it is with water changes. Rule of thumb is: No new water-No new salt!!!!

good to know, I'll be more carefull next time. The goldfish always seem to scurry away, so they never got burned or ate it before
